Just purchased my 1977 GTB, (Rosso Chiaro/nero) and having never driven one before, have to say what an amazingly involving drive it is...... love the sound (Bell sports exhaust) and feedback through the steering wheel in particular ...... too scared to drive my Dino GTS now, which is a real shame , but this is a very , very worthy replacement ..... I'm wondering now, why it took me so long to recognise and get into this model??!

Gorgeous. Enjoy it, they really drive wonderfully. If I had a chance I would go back in time and buy a 308 GTB vs the 308QV GTS I have. Better yet, have bought the Dino GT L vs the Jag OTS I bought.

thanks guys! what amazed me was how well it copes with todays driving conditions, town traffic, motorways, B roads etc...... whatever i threw at it, it just soaked it all up. No rattles or bangs from the suspension , squeaking trim etc . Honestly having not driven the car before i bought it, i was expecting something altogether more 'vintage' driving experience..... similar to my Dino (after all, they are only 3 years apart in production)!

The interior of this car is as original, and looking a little tired ..... im not really much into 'patina' for my cars, so am having the interior re trimmed. Will post some photos when done.

Congrats, Jez. For me your car is the quintessential 308. (GTB w/carbs, color combo, euro, 16" wheels). I'm in love!

Thanks Joe, it is a very original 'unmolested' example, i agree!
even has the original spare wheel, jack and tool kit, which i was amazed with.

The only blot on the landscape is the very un-original c.1990's stereo system ...... anyone got any ideas on what it would be best to replace this with?

i have seen there are classic car stereo companies in the UK, that specialise in retro units with modern internals for ipods/bluetooth etc ....... anyone have any examples of these in situ, pictures would be appreciated.

As i love the exhaust and induction sound so much, maybe i should save some money to spend on petrol, and just rip out the current stereo and replace with a blanking panel?!

The PO of my car spent good money on new speakers and a new (when installed in 2007) head unit. Reading this made me realize that I have yet to turn it on!

actually, my thoughts exactly , Jessup ...... i didn't even see if my head unit worked .....it just looked an eyesore to me ! ...... saw a nice looking original stereo on an '83 308 GTS in the dealer i bought my car from ...... even had the original ferrari badge on the front panel . I think this would be the best i could hope for, but probably as rare as hens teeth!

Probably will look out for an early 80's head unit, to give a more harmonious look .... as you say, will probably never even be used!
    Regs,
    Jez

I've already said it numerous times, but french Ferraris were offered by the french importer, Ch.Pozzi, with Pioneer head units, which had a small cavallino badge on the left, just below the "volume" button.
This due to the fact that Pioneer France had a sponsorship deal with Pozzi for entering the group IV Ferraris in rally.
These days, you don't see these vintage stereos very often for sale, perhaps once in a year, and they do not stay "for sale" very long.

I've always prefered the eyes down. On any car!

Very nice car. I'm blessed to have one in my garage.

And you're right about how well these cars drive with the age they have, my TR gave me the same thought when I drove it for the first time too.

    Well built cars I guess.
