Hi guys! Been a very long time lurker here. I am looking to get into a 360 and just have a few questions. Here is the car in question 2001 Ferrari 360 Modena 1) The dealer has a no offsite inspection policy, so pretty much no PPI at another shop. What are my choices? Are there chicago area ferrari techs that can send someone to do the PPI at that dealer? 2) Does anyone recognize this car or its prior history? Thank you all very much in advance Mike
Ditto on above. No inspection = Go **** off! No inspection policy and they don't even offer a warranty. Stoopid IMHO.
Well if you can get a copy of the records of all the recent service and maybe talk to the mechanic that might provide a little ease. It was on ebay a while ago you can find the ad it by entering the VIN on google. Pretty car, maybe there is a way to get an inspection at the sellers location from a person you choose? Post in the Chicago section to see who might know of a mobile PPI guy?
I even have had "regular" cars inspected before I buy used. If they wont budge on that, after they know you have funds Id echo the above and find another car.
No PPI, don't waste your time. And make sure the seller knows that this is the reason you are walking away, and that it will probably cost them other buyers as well.
Wow, it seems like everyone's of the same opinion. I don't have high hopes for a mobile PPI because I feel the person doing the PPI wont have access to all the special ferrari tools to do the proper PPI. (compression test, clutch wear etc) I guess I really need to press on with the PPI or time to look at another car. Appreciate all the quick replies
Can't agree more. You really need to have a PPI done to check for things that can't be seen in pictures or on sheets. Alot of work seems to have been put into this car recently as well. You should ask for all the paperwork to be faxed or emailed to you. If they say they have an issue with that because of the owner release, ect. tell them to make a copy, black out the owner info, and then fax it to you. You have the right to ask them to prove to you that their claims that the works that has been done, in fact, actually has. If not, how can you know? Lets say they say the belt is good for another 8K miles and its only good for 500 and it throws a belt 31 days after you purchase the car. Not trying to be a devils advocate but want to look out for a fellow Fchatter. I will call the dealer tomorrow as soon as they open and point blank ask them if I can do a PPI on a different car and see what they say. See if they are being hinkey about this car in particular or if it is them as a whole. For a dealer that has that many exotics in inventory/consignment it seems absurd they wouldn't allow a PPI. Can't believe they would move any with that policy unless they offer some type of dealer B2B warranty for at least a year and there is no info on that on there page. Let you know what they say to me tomorrow about my interest in their 96 Dodge Viper and post here right after. I lived at Irving Park and Southport for years FYI. N
I'd be more concerned with the blue interior, unless you plan to keep it forever and always wanted a gray/blue car. That's why it's priced as it is.
If you google the VIN they have had "several" price reductions... Many others out there, I was about to buy a red/tan 2002 Spider for 72K (18K miles, F1, shields, headers, cats and racing exhaust,, new clutch all records and a clean PPI) when I found the 2004.
NCromwell: Thank you! That is exactly my concern as well, I can't express my appreciation enough Darkharris: the pictures shows the interior to be black, the only hint of blue I can tell is the carpet... which brings more question than answers. Ideally I want a yellow or red car, but I plan to put a ton of mileage on the car and enjoy the heck out of it, so I am more interested in a clean example of an color that I don't hate rather than a must have color. SCKOMS: will do, thanks!
You need to buy what you will be happy with in the long run. There is a good chance I will purchase a 360 in the spring. It will have to be black or possibly red or TDF. I have come to the conclusion that those are the only three colors I will be really happy with.
As my mechanic told me RUN, I was in the same position, I had found a good deal, from a body shop guy, but he would not send car out for a PPI, he kept saying nothing is wrong with the car, When I told my mechanic, he told me to RUN from the deal so I did. A few months later I found the right car and was able to send car for a PPI to my mechanic everything worked out perfect.
If you even have to pressure the dealer into doing a PPI, go someplace else. Do it even if you never see the dealer again and have service done elsewhere. These shady people don't need to be kept in business.
Car looks to be a good deal at that price with the work that has been done but refusal to allow a PPI seems fishy. Interior is black unless the camera is not set right. Alan
Carefully read the ad and description posted. It clearly states that the interior is "blue leather." Yes, the interior appears black in the photos. It also has contrasting stitching. I cannot tell if it is silver or light blue. Photos can be deceiving. I have nothing against silver/blue cars. I owned a silver/blue car. I thought it was beautiful. But I cannot tell you how many people told me that "if the interior was black I would buy your car." And, "too bad it isn't red/tan." Just sayin'.
I have a 360 with the same color. The interior in mine is blue but its a really dark blue, I have no problem believing its blue on this one and just shows black in the pictures. There are not many Griggio Alloy 360s out there and even fewer with the challenge grill so based on that and the VIN it should be easy to search out its history. I did not do a PPI on my 360 when I bought it but I agree if they won't allow a PPI RUN. When I bought my car they were more than willing to allow a offsite PPI, owner said he would drive it to the shop of my choice but like I said, I ended up not doing one.
