The fundamental problem with the F22 ended up being that it was entirely useless against a home made car bomb.

You probably know more than I do, and I realize that quoting Wikipedia as a source is a dangerous thing. However, it does summarize it nicely.

If that's inaccurate (including the sourcing through the footnotes), then I stand corrected.

Post war Japan has always been willing to recycle its trade surplus buying US military junk. Israel gets US financial aid which it then uses to purchase military equipment from the US, essentially getting it for free. So no surprise these 2 want to purchase the latest and greatest.

Australia, no idea why they would want to squander funds. The F22 if anything looks pretty.

Not inaccurate but you're cherry-picking for apples and oranges. :)

Don- There were overseas customers for the F-22, especially the Japanese, but the decision was made not to export it because of the technologies involved. The F-35 buy really had little to do with the F-22. The F-35 is an F-16, F/A-18, AV-8 and F-15E replacement, not an F-15C replacement.

Over in Aust I am still hoping to see the F35 in my lifetime - they are a little late!! Actually I shouldn't say that, we have some guys over there converting on the first 2..

Looking forward to them but miss the F111.

John- The F-111s were late showing up down south, too, so hopefully it will not be too long before you get your first bird.

The Aardvarks just got too expensive to service.

Gabe- That is a BS chart if I ever saw one. The idea of doing interdiction in a flying radar corner reflector at 350 KTAS is pretty laughable. Some of the rest of those missions can be done by helicopters and attacking a ship with modern air defenses with an A-10 is pretty much unsurvivable with the current weapons suite.

That, plus the chart should have had an F15E with a list longer than the A-10. However both are two of my all time favorites.

I seem to recall that chart from awhile back as sort of a joke at the time. The AF was promoting the F-15 as a multi-role fighter aircraft. While at the same time (and separately), as justification to support the A-10 retirement plan, they labeled the Warthog as a single-role platform and therefore... useless.

    It indeed has been stored.
On a totally unrelated note; I saw your car outside the cafeteria entrance today. I've been wanting to see this for years and finally did and with nobody around. Was there an employee car show this week or something?

Yup. The show was supposed to be yesterday, but was officially postponed until next Monday because of the weather. But the weather was fine when I was preparing to leave the house, so I took the Ferrari anyway. At least a few of us dared to show up. Come out again next Monday at lunchtime and we should have a pretty good car show.
