I had a quite strange experience this weekend. After having started the car, I turned it off and shortly on again afterwards (I do not recall why doing this). No lights, no messages, everthing fine. However, the car drove as if it had Mazda classic car power. Sound absolutely normal though. Simply drastically reduced power (limited highway speed no problem, luckily). All gears working properly, absolutely nothing to report, except the reduced power.

After having stopped, turning off the engine, waiting half a minute, turning the key, patiently waiting for all OK messages, and starting, everything was fine again. 620 HP instead of 62 HP :D.

Can this effect be due to too fast starting after having turned the key? Anyway, why no signal, message, warning etc. at all? Initially I had believed that the brakes are beginning to sieze, but shifting into neutral while rolling proved that this was not the reason (would have been quite a surprise)!

Any idea from the knowledgable? Thanks in advance for thoughts.

My 08 did it once as well; I started the car from cold, pulled out of the garage and then realized I did not have my wallet. Turned the car off and restarted about a minute later and it seemed to be in limp home mode or something similar. Turning off and back on cured the problem and it has not done it again.

Yup. Always wait until "CHECK OK" appears in the TFT display.

I have had a similar problem a couple of times, the worst being when I was driving from Paris to London, which really freaked me out. I stopped the car and switched it off and then re-started the car a few minutes later and it seemed fine.

However it did ruin my drive back as I was continually worried that the car would cease on me.

I always assumed I was having problems because my 599 is manual and has given me the odd problem every now and then...

My car did this this evening along with engine malfunction and F-1 going crazy. I was trying to show my wife how to shift from manual to auto and back. It was still warming up and I think I put the computer into a seizure. It was dying when I rolled to a stop and I thought I thrashed the engine somehow. I finally limped it back to my garage and did a hard reboot by the battery switch, then the relearn process. Worked fine after that. Scared the you know what out of both of us! Don't know how much an engine is...

I've been out driving it the entire evening after the complete reset. Seems to be running ok but still one oddity, the "check ok" light. I can't seem to get it on until after the engine is running. I waited once for five minutes and nothing. Went ahead and started the engine and within ten seconds, "check ok" pops up. Any ideas?

That has happened to me as well a couple of times. Turn it off, wait and restart and all is back to normal.
No clue why but someone told me it is related to the "Motronic" (sp.?) not starting and synching correctly.

The Motronic system needs a run cycle to allow everything to be trimmed successfully. So you did not get a Check OK because everything was not OK. The run cycle can be ignored and she will eventually relearn everything she needs to know after a couple of drives, just do not have an emissions test until everything is back to normal.

Ok. The part that confused me was the "Check OK" was coming on but after the engine was already. Thanks for your advice. John

My old GTB needed to be rebooted a few times when the engine management system warning light came on. But loss of power sounds like problems with your Lambda sensors which is sending incorrect information causing the engine to go into limp-mode?

Well so far today I've experienced a CST failure and manetino failure and two electrical system failures (which last about two seconds). I had to pull over and restart to remove the manatelli and CST failure. Car seems to be driving fine now. Check ok light still comes on AFTER engine is started not before. Otherwise, seems normal.

Hello, "Check OK" light also come AFTER engine is started on my 599 GTO. Is it a normal behavior ? Would be nice if others could answer, I also have time to time those engine failures - and once car stopped on the traffic light.

That would be nice to know. I've looked in manual and it says before.

You're right, that's what my manual says as well, but here's how it really works on my 2008 612 OTO, it may or may not be the same for the 599.

When I first turn the key on, the TFT display shows just "CHECK" (without the "OK"). I then start the engine and the engine icon glows yellow. It stays on for about 10 seconds and right after it goes out, "CHECK OK" appears on the TFT display for about 2 seconds. So if you are not looking at the display right at that time you could miss it.

If I don't get the "CHECK OK" after the engine has run for 10 seconds, I have to shut it off and wait about 30 seconds before restating. This only happens once in a great number of starts, but if I try to drive without "CHECK OK" showing, the car will operate in limp mode.

I think something got lost when they translated the manual to English! :D

Paul- Your OTO has Motronic 7.3.2 and so do US 599s after SN 156938, so the behavior is probably common. Euro 599s may have had 7.3.2 a bit earlier. Earlier 612s, 599s, F430s, and 575s had 7.1.1.

I had a California before my 599 GTO, Check OK was appearing before the engine start. Reason I was confused when I first drove my 599. Strange behavior though...

I had a strange problem yesterday with my 06 599gtb. First I started to encounter limp mode - moderate power up to 5.5 rpms and then suddenly full power with normal acceleration. First thought about a clutch, but a month ago it had only half of wear. Then the engine failure sign came on the display. Continued driving ( restart didnt help ) and then got bunch of errors - mannetino failure, cst failure, even saw smth about shocks. After restart only engine sign stayed on. Right now the car is in process of hard reset - I ll check it in few hours.

Could a clutch at 32% be causing all this calamity? We're going to go ahead and have Norwood replace it and see if that takes care of it

Absolutelly not, my clutch was checked last year with 7%. I drove 500 km since, and I had the same problem last year. I personaly believe this is a an electronic failure and nothing to do with engine, clutch or gearbox.
