No for me. It 'destroys' the car's look.
Fins yes for a white one. Fuel cap on none for me. OT: Seeing this picture of that awesome white Speciale with these horrible orange sidemarkers on the front makes me feel sorry for everyone living under the duty to have a car equipped with these things... Over here, it ins't even allowed to put sidemarkers on your car. (for good)
Wow, I had no idea most people dislike the gas cap in carbon. I for one love it, especially with the tiny little pony on the cap. IMO, you essentially get both designs by speccing the cap due to the fact that it is only on one side of the car. One side clean and one side fancy!
FLU, that was my thought! Eh, i am going to be staring at this configurer for a while again. I think it looks sharp on the white example posted.
I love the carbon side fins but not the fuel flap. It always strikes me that you have lost the original and that is a temporary replacement while you wait for the painted one. Just my opinion.
thread hijack... what's the purpose of the side fin? How does the airflow affect the car's handing? thanks in advance.
My best guess is that it does something similar for the rear wheels that the vertical fins at the front corners do for the front wheels. By having a larger opening between the leading edge of the fin and the car body, than the gap between the trailing edge of the fin and the car body, the air flowing through the gap is compressed and exits rearwards as a jet. This provides an air curtain across the wheel opening preventing air entering it (to some extent) and thereby reducing drag. Its a technology you can see on other maker's vehicles as well as Ferrari's.
thanks. Journalists frequently explain the aerodynamic features of Ferrari. Such as the front "fins" on the regular 458 or the rear fins on 430. they have not talked about the side fins on Speciale. weird.
I remember reading somewhere that they were there to add downforce to the front axle, despite being set rather far back. Makes sense in the sense, no pun intended, that they are placed in front of the rear axle, so what ever downforce they make, will have an effect on the front axle.
That side fins looks like the ones on airplanes. Which turns airflows from laminar flow to turbulent. Saves on drag (up to 30% fuel for jets). Just a guess.
Well, I emailed my dealer to make changes and he replied with the good new bad news opener. Good news is that my production got moved to November! Bad news, no changes possible. SO... for me, dark grey wheels, carbon front flaps, and exhaust intake, diffuser, engine bay and gas cap. NO Side fin. On looking at the build, it emphasizes the mid portion of the car throughout... where as gold wheels and side fins with NO carbon gas cap emphasizes the lower potion of the car throughout. Anyhow, Im excited and I hope the car looks great in person.
Separate question, I'm torn between dmg wheels or polish black wheels. Car's white. Anyone has sideprofile photos of a white example with dmg wheels? Also racing stripes. I was told I could do any stripes I want on special request. Even Italy tricolor stripes. I always wanted a clean car with full cf. Now to stripe it or not. Current reservation with the dealer is no stripes but with rear diffuser cf & fin, side fins and polish black wheels. Any opinions on this? I'm considering the Italy tricolor or dual black stripes
Last time I checked they might have a set available state side or can get in from Germany in 2-3 days..
@Ahmed: Rember that the Capristo fins got another shape than the originals. They got a kind of 'side fin'. Personally, I'd prefer the original design.
