Vettel thinks he's Schumi, he's not. And besides, he cannot do what Schumi did and pound around Fiorano till they get the car right. So he will be just as hamstrung by Ferrari's crap car as Alonso has been - only he's not as good as Alonso (IMO). This is a major step backwards for Ferrari IMO, there is NOBODY in the paddock that I've ever heard rate Vettel above Alonso.
I think he is, overall. I'd give him the benefit of the doubt. I think all the changes at Ferrari will be very positive; we'll find out in about a year how that's going .
Let the haters hate. Nothing will change there mind. There will still be neysayers even if he does return the championship to Ferrari.
Utter BS. Fred's the only bright spot on this train wreck of a team. Blaming the one guy who's carried repeated dogs to good results under chaotic team leadership is just plain ... Fill in your own descriptor. I'm not looking to get banned.
Think what Massa & Kimi together would have achieved in this year's car. Then look at what Alonso has achieved. One of the greatest drivers of all time, and they're letting him go. The first thing the new management should have done is apologise to him for the useless machinery they've given him over the years.
How many more championships would they have had if they'd kept MS? They're making a habit of letting people go who they shouldn't.
It's Ferrari. Their judgment has been poor with short stints of brilliance. It's a Mediterranean state of mind.
I don´t know why you guys keep talking as if it all this was Mattiacci´s fault. Alonso has been saying for weeks to whoever wanted to listen to him that it was his decision, and that he made up his mind months ago. Of course he probably wants to quit because the car is crap, but that´s something that was not going to get solved in a few months.
That´s what Aircon said in the post you quoted above. And you didn´t seem to disagree with him. About Alonso out, it´s true that the fat lady still hasn´t sung. But Alonso himself said that whatever is sung, it´s going to be his song.
I was agreeing on the tradition not confirming the speculation. I strongly suspect that Seb is in and Alonso out but no one outside the gates knows exactly why or how.
I still haven't finished watching the race. Not sure I want to now with Bianchi's crash. The news on Vettel is amazing. But what's to say Kimi's contract isn't being bought out? I know, I know, wishful thinking. But I really thought FIAT had more sense than to trash everything after Domenicali and LDM. IMHO, Alonso HAS been driving the crap out of that underpowered dog. Don't anyone forget how hard MB trounced everyone with their power unit and cold side compressor this year. You can't just snap your fingers and beat that. But then after LDM left, I started to see how it would be hard for Fred to stay. It's sad, as I think he has more sense of the culture in Italy and at Ferrari, but maybe that's what they all want to change? You can call LDM a hack lawyer but he was with the team since Enzo and at the track all that time. Not in some board room, dealership or his office. It's hard to believe Fred can go back to McL after all that fracas but I got to the sport just after that went down. Vettel only recently "matured" from his "drive up your teammate's gear box" crashing. Remember how many times he crashed or did loco stuff he would wind his own finger around his temple on camera? It's a time of change and demolition and only a miracle would keep Fred at SF with all the speculation. But look what happened to Bianchi. Silly Season with not so silly injuries.
Would be amazing if kimi retires and we get to see alonso trounce vettel race after race. Doubt vettel moved without assurances. He was sick of losing to ricciardo and wouldn't jump out the frying pan and into the fire
