If anyone is interested here are the comparative lap times of nico and lewis after their last pit stop (when lewis was already in the lead)

Starting from their first lap after outlap:

    Nico: Lewis
    152.886 152.170
    153.207 151.667
    155.406 151.600
    152.880 152.542
    152.926 152. 977
    153.309 152.525
    153.708 153.374
153.699 lost these last 2 laps somehow for lewis
    154.883

SC then came out at which point lewis 14.5 ahead

anyone know how fast jules was going at point of impact?

I read on Twitter that an interview with mika salo stated a hard hit to the helmet. Take it with a grain of salt but based on the damage on the car I'm not surprised. Hoping for the best.

That's what I surmised after seeing photos of the car. If he wedged under the tractor, it's a very serious situation. HANS will help somewhat, but how much we'll need to wait and see.

Seems like that's what happened. :(

Not sure how much HANS will/could help in such a ****ed up scenario. (?)

    Fingers crossed for the guy.

Agree in that it´s standard procedure but maybe the standard procedure should be questioned. There have been a few incidents with the crane that could have ended badly before this.

    The FIA Update In Full
"On lap 42, Adrian Sutil lost control of his car, spun and hit the tyre barrier on the outside of Turn Seven. The marshals displayed double-waved yellow flags before the corner to warn drivers of the incident. A recovery vehicle was despatched in order to lift the car and to take it to a place of safety behind the guard rail.

“While this was being done, the driver of car 17, Jules Bianchi, lost control of his car, travelled across the run-off area and hit the back of the tractor. Once the marshals reported that the driver was injured medical teams were despatched and the Safety Car was deployed. These were followed by a extraction team and an ambulance. The driver was removed from the car, taken to the circuit medical centre and then by ambulance to Mie General Hospital.

"The CT scan shows that he has suffered a severe head injury and is currently undergoing surgery. Following this he will be moved to intensive care where he will be monitored. Mie General Hospital will issue an update as soon as further information becomes available."

    Rubbish.

There had been virtually an entire race without incident. Cars were not spearing off left, right, and centre, and most of the race was run in intermediate tyres.

The real question - if there is one - is why didn't they bring the race forward a couple of hours when they knew days ago that bad weather was coming in.

I think we all know the answer to that. It starts with T and ends with V.

They couldn't move the race forward not because of TV slots, which would have been moved (todays programming was the first slot on many broadcasters) - but because a large portion of the fans were arriving by train with pre-booked tickets for a specific time slot. They would have missed a large portion of the race or have to purchase new (expensive) bullet train tickets.
