GARAGE FLOORS.. WHATS THE BEST?

Mine will be a high Polish stain. Will look like marble. As for slick, yes. Winter will present that challenge. As well as rain. I plan on rubber mats as needed. Follow my 'my garage' thread for photos

 

I too am interested in a polished concrete looking like marble. Interested to see and images out there.

 

my experience of polish concrete is it doesn't wear that well and is difficult to seal, I'd go for a terrazzo, or there are some fairly nice resin floors available

 

as little as my garage will be used I am not at all concerned. only eight cars on the floor, eight above. movement will be very little. at 76, very little.

I'd recommend a well done and sealed slab and then use race Deck. They allow you to customize colors and have an amazing website where can make your own patterns. Really nice touch - can be sophisticated (dark on dark) or loud, matching the cars if like. Super durable and can be changed up...I don't work for them promise, just a fellow Ferrari owner

I have 3 coats of epoxy that I had put down about 8 years ago and it still looks brand new. I wash the cars in the garage and the floor never gets slippery. I really recommend it.

 

Note: many different epoxies on the market. Many are as smooth as glass and those are dead slippery when wet.

 

I have something similar in my carport and I love it. Your feet never get wet when washing your car. And the feel when you're on your back on the floor is much better.

 

does a floor jack roll over that material ok? It looks like it has a raised profile/pattern.

 

Yes jacks very well. Think about the 3000lb car rolling...The tiles lock together and make a system. They will send you samples to try...have a look at the site and the testimonials. I've known several pro garages to use...

 

Yes it does. I also have a chair with wheels that I roll around the garage floor with Race Deck.

I have an epoxy floor and if I were to do it all over again it would be terrazzo.

 

I'm happy with the race deck tile, but I only do minor stuff, brakes, oil changes on the car.

There was another thread on floors, with many photos. Very instructive. The type of floor should IMO complement the architectural style. I can't see a plastic checkerboard floor in a renovated European barn for instance.

Personally, I would go with ceramic tile. There are industrial grades with nonslip properties. My problem with Racedeck and similar is what happens if you spill oil or other fluids on it? The spill will accumulate underneath.

Euro Ferrari dealers are all using a porcelain tile. available at $9.50 sq. ft. in the USA. one distributor. looks really good. dark color but very classy.. attached is my decision. I am trying to create a castle dinning hall with a 12th century court yard street. I am still open to suggestions. follow all post on the tread: 'new garage!' a 1,1million dollar budget. stain is $48.50 per hour X 8 hrs. X 3 days to do this 2,000 sq. ft.

My main garage is located inside my small factory.
I had white Johnsons diamond tile all over and it looked marvelous but the "clean floor" OCD inside my brain always thought it looked dirty.
As a result I wasn't doing any work that could leave stains or make it look as it needed cleaning. (It was a very solid and easy to clean one, it was just the color that was unsuitable for such a purpose)
So I thought of it and decided to go gray.
I used polyurethane that was laid on the top of the tile and so far I have no problems.
Keep in mind that I would never try this at home, as it looks so "industrial" that downgrades whatever interior decoration your garage has.
But again it depends from what kind of jobs you do at your garage.
But whatever you do "stay on the dark side" less cleaning and less trouble.

Haha, we are quite opposite, Aris. I find dark floors always look dirty and would advise in favor of white floors!

Terrazzo looks fantastic for parking spaces but is a PIA for a DIYer's garage (spend lots of time looking for dropped hardware).
