adding oil when checked with the engine off means a lot of money for the dealer
I check mine monthly. Did the same with the Italia. A couple of times I had to add .5 - 1 quart to the Italia, I haven't had to add any to the Speciale yet. That said...I can't imagine not checking the oil regularly. Even if you don't have a leak and your engine has never consumed much oil, that can always change. I'd hate to find out there was a problem when I'm writing a check for a new motor. Checking the oil is quick and painless (minus the occasional burn ), I'm not sure why people are reluctant to do it. That goes for all cars, not just Ferraris.
Getting a stylish oil cap would probably make the exercise more enjoyable . Image Unavailable, Please Login
Until it goes wrong, engine self destructs and the warranty claim is rejected due to owner negligence. Had such an issue with an M3 where a manual oil check isn't possible.
Distance min - max on the dipstick is 2L I believe. Assuming the warning light goes on when the level drops below min, that means running up to 2L low for who knows how long before the car tells you. I'd prefer to catch it sooner.
3,000km on the Speciale and it needed a litre. My Italia needed regular top ups. The harder you drive, the more oil you'll need. Some owners only need oil at service time because that's the only time the dipstick gets looked at.
