Wanted one (actually 2) ever since I can remember. "Missed" a change to buy (for "peanuts") one of the best examples in the world at the time about 25 years ago. Maybe someday...
At least I see the one pictured few times a week from the hill top in the back ground or when visiting that airfield. Helps keep the dream alive...

Hornetdriver! I wondered if you'd reply to this thread. I have a question if you don't mind; Did you transition out of the Tomcat into the Bug, or began in the Bug on your first squadron assignment?

 

I'd agree, but would argue this one should be someplace near the top...

For myself? Grounded in reality as I am, I'd figure an SR-71 tops the list. If I have to go props, a P-38 would be my dream. Will always remember the days, as a child, of driving by DuPage Airport and seeing a P-38 on the tarmac...

That plane is actually used by the Ferrari F1 team.

Piaggio is a division of Fiat.

I would rather have an Avanti then a small business jet aircraft.

 

Reading this makes me realize how lucky, and old, I am. I've flown most of these airplanes. Not the Spitfire, Lancaster or SR-71 (I have been in the SR many times on the ground only), but most of the rest. I'd like to fly the Piaggio. I think it's a very interesting design. A friend of mine has a fractional ownership of a Citation X and a Piaggio. For flights under 3 hours he prefers the Piaggio.

 

For flexibility: Grumman Albatross.

For style: short body Lockheed Constellation, preferably an 049 or C-69 with later engines and a business interior.

Warbird: B-29. B-26 (either maker), B-23, early (Lockheed built) F-104

For pure adrenaline/speed: MiG 25 or F-104 (late Italian built)

PS. If reality was a factor I'd say NA Navion or Lake Amphibian.

 

My friends Dad down in Long Beach maintained a fleet of Connies for the Hacienda Resort Hotel and Casino back in the 50's and 60's. The planes flew from Long Beach to Las Vegas making multiple round trips daily. My buddy had to help his dad do things from replacing magnetos and balancing props to emptying the buckets in the restroom.

When my friend went to Vietnam in 1965 the Army was glad to have him.
He ran a crew that balanced helicopter blades and tail rotors far from the action.
Unfortunately he worked on a lot of helicopters that sprayed agent orange.
He could always tell which ones had sprayed because there was no paint from where the boom would be mounted all the way to the tail rotor.

I guess that I'm going against the flow but I would chose a Navion, or a Bellanca 230 Cruismaster. The Stearman will always be one of my favorites, too.

 

This Boeing 720 (if it was real of course) would kind of meet my needs. Watch the video starting at 3:15.

The Magician was only on from 1974-75 but I still remember the plane.

Flew on that plane (Avantair) on numerous occasions, usually PWK to ASE.
Great aircraft, quiet, comfy and almost as quick as most light jets.

 

Jesus, where are they sitting, the cargo hold?!?!?!? Look how high the windows are in comparison to the seats!

 

Uh, why are the shots of the airplane taking off and in flight of a 737?

Why do they make these DUMB mistakes?

 

That has got to be the ugliest interior I've ever seen in an airplane (even if it's fake). And I've seen some pretty ugly interiors.

 

Well it WAS the 70's

 

...and a C-130 on the ground.

 

How about a Beech 17? Ever flown one? Those always appealed to me, that and a Super Cub.

 

I got some stick time in a couple when I was Hondo. Nice but I liked the Lockheed Model 12 better. A little bit heavier and seemed to be smoother and better balanced. I forgot the Super Cub , yes , that is a great little fun airplane, does everything well. Had a blast flying them in Florida. Be nice to have one now.
