Wow, that poor thing is in rough shape indeed.

I wish whoever buys it the best of luck; they're braver than I am.

I have never said this about a car discussed here but this is a parts car. Even an intrepid and skilled DIYer would be way upside down on this car.

Indeed, not worth the headache. It needs to be parted out.

What is scary about this thread is that google searches turn up some of these cars for sale again in pristine condition with just over 30,000 miles on the clock.

No! That would be a shame. That is a solid looking car - it is after all a galvanized QV. The body looks straight, and it looks like all the pieces are all there.

Forget a full resto on this baby. Clean it up, replace all the hoses and rubber, take a chance that all the engine and gearbox need is a full maintenance, and this may just be a good runner for under thirty grand. Clear coat it and oh what an awesome patina! It could be the first of it's kind around here...

And the tail light lenses are in the correct location!

    "No rust to speak of."

Then could the Ebay Lister just use sign language and point to the rusty parts?

"Air Intake Pipe is in the car. Also original tool pouch."

Well that raises the value by a couple grand right there!

Looks like a good start for a track day car rather than part it out.

Well, the black QV that was listed on eBay is now gone.Last bid I saw was $16,100 so I'm guessing someone paid at least $20,000 for this thing for the Owner to end the auction early. My guess is that it went to a dismantler as you would have to be out of your mind to spend that much cash on the price of admission, and think you're going to restore this thing. LOL

The prices, they are a rising!

Strange, the black QV is back again at $16,400 (67 bids). I also noticed noticed it was suddenly missing after your post and also not shown in the completed listings yet. Guess some deal fell thru.

I think it was a hiccough in the ebay system, because the car was/is on my watch list and all the old bids are still in place. Knowing what the market is these days, and what people expect it to be next year, I can see the car going for $25-30k.

And...SOLD! Twenty grand. Somebody is in for a lot of work. I think I'd gut that car and go for the full-on track day approach. That's still a pricy track car starting point.

Assuming it's not going for parts.

It's going to be a while before a car with this history pays back the needed work.

Why is that so common on these? Poor attention to detail after a repaint?

This car closed out at 20,200.00! Pretty strong money IMO. I thought about going for it in the 18.5k range, but alas, I have too many projects, not to mention the feeding frenzy of 84 bids.

Yes, strong price. Bodes well for market. I hope the buyer can get it running without major work.

    Strong money indeed!
There is a reason it has set for 18 years, maybe the valves getting up close and personal with the pistons? For $20,200 very big gamble if it's not a parts car.
