    old news? your thoughts?

Ferrari 250 California With A Modern Italian Heart | Engine Swap Depot

"think it’s very safe to assume this is a kit car because as nice as this is, no one is crazy enough to mess with an original Ferrari 250 California. This kit appears to have a modern V8 out of a 2008-2013 Ferrari California. It is possible this is not an engine swap at all. The builder could have kept the entire modern California drivetrain and grafted the body over it. I couldn’t find anymore information on this project so please leave a comment if you know more."

obviously a kit car. alot wrong with it! and the wheels are hideous. looks like a lot of effort was applied though.

There is a thread somewhere on this car already. It is a modern Ferrari California that was re-bodied in the style of a 250 California. Everything under the body is stock Ferrari California.

That Cali the OP posted is in Sweden is a modern Cali with a classic body and interior. There are even shifter paddles behind the big old steering wheel. :)

I love the concept and don't really care about the opinion of the purist in me on this car. :p Good for the owner, kudos.

Would love to read more about the project.

Agreed. I love the idea of "restomods" and homages to earlier styling. I'd love a Porsche 356 with a modern 911 drivetrain.

It is a 2010 California under the skin. Body is hand built and had a fantastic finish. The wheels are modern Borrani so that the larger brake discs would fit. The interior is very nice with dual instruments and proper analogue speedo and rev counter. When I took the pictures (most of them are mine) it had not put on the badges. It also has a soft top.

Wheels are horrifying. Only way around that is custom wheels where the outer rim is black to look like a tire. Very tricky to do and fit around the stock brakes.

    I think its absolutely fabulous.

The wheels do look slightly off to me however the overall build quality from the pictures looks A+ in my opinion!

If only this was an easy turnkey operation!

Dino on a 458 chasis? Granted huge size difference but ooh my! The sexiness!

I always thought it'd be nice to rebody a 550 as a pf cab series I. Might go horribly wrong though.

I think you usually come out better doing a modern take on a classic like the new Stratos or P4/5 than a straight copy.

    i like it.

but one thing to remember is the size differences.

i was fortunate enough to see a lusso, a 250swb, a 275 gtb longnose, a daytona, and a dino altogether recently, in the same venue as some of the modern machines, and the size difference was huge.

as an example, the 275gtb alongside its modern imitator the 550, showed that the older car was about 3/4 or 7/8 of the size of the modern car.

so the homage's will always look a bit odd because you cannot easily get all the dimensions to play well together.

Yep, modern cars are huge, but they pulled this homage off very well.

Remember when we thought the TR was large?

The wheels are hideous, the back heavy and boxy. A "real" ferrari has a purity of line thta this one lacks. But thne as Willam said its betetr than a nerw cali, only just.

Worse are the paddles, making this look like a fun car to drive but its balnd modern instead.

There's a whole thread of pictures in the 308 section of just how small our older sports and GT cars are. Some are startling.

That is really really cool. I would drive that around with pride. Sure there are a few things that could be done a bit better, but that is one sweet car.

I wonder what that cost to do, and if they would do it again.
