Dave, if you don't mind me asking, is it an original Ferrari part? There's a mod I'd be interested in. Much more useful.

    Cheers,

    Nuno.

    Hi Nuno,

Yes, it's a Ferrari part. At the time I purchased it, none where available new from Ferrari or Ricambi. I got mine used from Bruce on this site.

Here is the deal, apparently Ferrari added the temp sensor and bung for it to certain cars (up to a certain assembly number). Other cars do not have the bung in the tank and no sensor.

This thread will tell you what to do if you don't have the bung in the tank and no sensor:

    http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/348-355-sponsored-bradan/382211-355f1-oil-temp-gauge-clock-swap-2.html

If you do have the sensor, I'm told the wires are right behind the dash already (hopefully).

I'll be getting into this when the weather turns (a few weeks) and I'll fully document it when I do.

My guess is that Ferrari kept the cars consistent to a certain point in the build and they became F1 cars later in the build process.

Thanks a lot, Dave! Precisely what I was looking for! Still haven't got the gage but will check on Eurospares. I once ordered from Ricambi for my Mondial and was quite pleased with the experience, only avoid buying from them because when parts arrive in the EU, I have to pay an absurd sum at customs, which angries me considerably by principle.

As I'm an ignorant in mechanical stuff, I'll have a word with my Ferrari specialist about the sensors and cables you mentioned. I find very useful to know the oil temp in order to know when's the right time to put my foot down. Won't risk it if oil temp hasn't reached the correct temp. Helps to respect the machine even further.

Will keep you posted. Thank you once again!

    Kindest regards,

    Nuno.

    Nuno,

What is your assembly number? Mine is 28459 and the parts diagram shows cars until 29613 should have the temp sensor.

Dave, I hope I've interpretated your post correctly because english isn't my mother tongue, so my sincere apologies in advance for that. If I understood correctly, the last six digits on my VIN are: 112249.

I have just checked with Eurospares but I'm a bit confused by their description of the part in question: they are all clearly marked "Not for 355 F1" and "Valid for GB" whereas Ricambi America doesn't make anysuch distiction between parts.

From what I've seen, getting the gage is fairly straightforward. But in case my car doesn't have any cables/sensors/connectors on the oil tank, do you know where I can find them? Will also try to find the correct part number regarding the lightbulb. The thread you kindly put forward is incredibly helpful indeed. Unfortunately I live in a place where it isn't easy to find very specific parts unless you're already a very seasoned owner, which isn't my case.

Thanks for all your help and information!

    Cheers,

    Nuno.

Nuno, the assembly number is not the VIN. The assembly number is located inside the engine bay, on the gas door side shock tower.

I see, thank you Dave. As I stated on the thread created about my 355 (http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/348-355-sponsored-bradan/462189-enough-downers-already.html), my car is currently undergoing an engine out major, which means I don't have the car with me at the time. Will visit next week at the very latest and will check the number in question and share it with you. This is a very nice and useful modification, hope I can get it!

    Kind regards,

    Nuno.

Wonder why Ferrari decided us F1 owners didn't need to know oil temp in the first place?! :)

    Regards,

    Nuno.

It is, the system was designed for use in multiple Ferrari models, one of which is the 355. The installation kits are what separate the different systems, but they are model specific.

    Please see above reply.

It is a Clarion system. All manufacturers use established audio companies for their sound systems, I cannot think of one that actually created their own system. Yes, "Ferrari" branding has been added.

Have you ever had a car with a flip up screen? I ask, because from the outside it may seem intrusive, but in reality, most of the time the screen is actually down, out of the way. This has been my firsthand experience. With exception to when you are using the map feature, when you're not really looking at your gauges...

As for the increase in shipping, if that is your sticking point, this may not be the deal for you anyways. But yes, there is an increase in shipping, there is more to ship, FedEx charges more, so we have to charge more as well. We could always use your shipping account if you prefer.

Per the Ferrari Bulletin: “Ferrari-specific software (integrated DAB, retractable motor control logic, opening angles )”

Yes, thank you for pointing this out.

I depends if you want aftermarket items on your Ferrari or if you are more interested in keeping it all "Ferrari“, this is an item that Ferrari has come up with for our cars. It can now be considered OEM vs aftermarket. This matters to some clients, not all, it's up to you.

This system also comes with a 2 year parts and labor warranty (when installed at a Ferrari Dealership)

    Agreed on your first paragraph.

Regarding “original design" I do not see where I or Ferrari claimed that we designed it... I do see where Ferrari has created an installation kit so that it can be utilized in various models 355/360/430. I am sorry if it came across that way.

    ^^^^ This !

Thank you to everyone who has taken the time to reply to this thread, it looks like I am one unit away from being sold out. We may get another chance to order more, but that is unknown at this time.

Response has been incredible, unexpected actually, please feel free to contact me with questions or concerns, I will try my best to reply as soon as possible.

Another thread about car audio setups, another thread with guys saying they've never turned on their radio because the real music comes from the engine. Yeah yeah. Going out on a limb here and guessing those are the 20 year old cars with 5000 miles on them. As much as I liked the sound my car made, listening to that for 12 hours at a time on long road trips gets old fast.

Do you change your own oil? if so, look under your tank and you will see the sensor in the tank if you have it.

Duh! Of Course, what was I thinking?

    Yes, I have it....wires and all. :)

Do we know were these wires terminate in the dash?

Time for a new thread as this is completely off-topic.

This makes total sense....especially for the 355. The gauges would remain in full view and there is nothing in the way of a flip down screen in a 355 dash/center console.

Tried to google flip down car stereo and it seems the major manufacturers don't make them. There's only generic and no-name brands on ebay.

    Too bad.

That's what I'd like to know. If it's double the price for simply having Ferrari stenciled on the corner, that sounds about right. Ferrari tax.

For the extra $500, I can stencil the "FERRARI" on to the Clarion unit myself.

Here's my head unit, a circa-2000 vintage hard drive, linux based unit called Empeg (aka RioCar). Cost about $10 to etch "Ferrari" on the faceplate, and $0 to hack the boot logo.

It has been a long while since I had it done, but I digged out the package the faceplate came in, and I sent it to a company called BC Laser Works in Oregon:

Laser Engraved Signs - BC Laser Works

So my guess is that it was laser etched.

    HTH.

    Cheers
