No as you tend to forget that the safety car placed back the front running cars, Hamilton got by them without having to pass them. It is not just about xyz seconds...And your conclusion is far from "beyond question" as the safety car would have ruined Hamiltons race just as it did with Rosbergs in the same situation.
And same with your "Rosberg isn´t good in the wet" theory...Rosberg was on even level while driving the heavy wets (as he was even still in the lead after the pitstop) and after changing to intermediates he did not get the car working anymore (for unknown reasons). As you like your timing tables you should look that Rosbergs fastest lap was in lap 15 rather than in the late 20s or even late 30s like everybody elses although the track got better showing that something with Rosbergs setup was not right for the intermediates or do you really think he forgot his driving abilities in the pitlane during the stop???
Again: nobody doubts here that Hamilton can drive but he is far away from the racing god you make him. Even if he is better than Rosberg it is still all about the car this year and not about "superior race craft"...And please stop telling everybody that you are "objective" as it is easy to see that you are not...

Did us Aussies go on and on and on like this about Weber, like he had no faults?

LH is a good driver that is doing a respectible job this year in a good car. When the McLaren was poor a few years ago I was impressed with his performances too. I don't like his out of the car Rapper look but I can ignore that. What I cannot ignore is this continue defence of the guy by his supporters and the F1 broadcast commentators gushing constantly about him. LH farts and Brundle does a Murray Walker until he calms down ... gee whiz.

LH fans, we get it, you like the guy and he is your hero. Great but stop telling us this, please.

You cannot force somebody to respect another person. Respect has to be earnt ...

All nico and hammy have done this year is show how superior the mb is. Put them in any other car and they would do no better than any of those drivers. Kudos to the entire mb team for their efforts.

Agree, but I will give LH credit in that he is not wasting his chance in a good car. That is all a sports person can do, ie. make hay when the sun shines on them.

Weber for example could not do this.

I agree with you, the ease that both of them have come through the field shows the true pace that the Mercedes has over the entire field. If anything, this year has proved me the impression that the cars is so good almost anyone (other than Maldanado) could be achieving similar results and is diminishing my appreciation for F1.

Lauda himself has said the cars are too easy to drive. Gimmicks like drs only make it easier.

    And how would he know?

Do you recall when he was at Jag (IIRC) and suited up to show these young guys how it was done? *Completely* embarrassed himself and the team when he was about 5-10 seconds off the pace.

Was a great driver, but a complete & utter fool outside the cockpit.

DRS makes passing possible. Would you prefer the 'golden age' when the only passing was done in the pits and we watched huge trains of cars being held up throughout the race? When it was obvious the 'leader' was slower than the followers but there was nothing they could do. That was exciting......

    Cheers,
    Ian

I did not realise that Lauda was that close. Heck I'm seriously impressed ... was not embarrassing at all.

Every month out of a race car you loose seconds ... he was out of a race car for many years and he is now an old man! I thought he was minutes slower, seriously. I know he fell of the black stuff but heck that was too be expected :)

    :)

Actually, thinking more, you're right - I was doing him a favor with '5-10 seconds'..... He was *miles* off.

It did also get him to STFU for a while though. Which has to be a good thing! ;)

They're 'too easy to drive'? Really? For the first time in a long time they're having to feed in the power rather than just stomping on it. They'll spin the wheels in pretty much every gear if provoked. Downforce is down substantially from years past. The tires may, or may not, fall apart pretty quickly if not managed.

Again, as great as he was as a jockey, the mans a fool outside the cockpit; He wouldn't know what a current F1 steering wheel does beyond steering the thing......

    Cheers,
    Ian

I do recall Lauda spinning several times but eventually got it somewhat sorted out; surprised he even fit in the cockpit....."Golden age" IMHO was in the 70-80s, not in the 1990s to the present.

We can debate 'the golden age' till the cows come home.... ;)

I did a quick Google and it was 2002, so he wasn't quite as 'chubby' back then either. Seems he was about 15 seconds off and spun the thing 3 times in about as many laps.... This after saying 'monkeys could drive the cars today'...... Sound familiar?.... Also worth noting this was pretty much the height of the 'electronic aids' era with ABS, TC, launch control and so on.

Helluva driver, a clown when he opens his mouth..... ;)

    Cheers,
    Ian

A 52-53 year old man who hasn't driven in almost 20 years hops in a modern car with no prior training in said car and is only 15 seconds off the pace? I don't find that too bad at all.

Well, he was a multiple WDC, so we know he can drive..... But 10-15 seconds off may as well be a week off.

However, that really wasn't my point - He honestly believed the current drivers sucked and that he'd be 'competitive'. The mans arrogance knows no bounds was what I was alluding too.

Back then his quote was 'a monkey could drive them'. Now, it's 'they're too easy to drive'. Deja vue?

Sorry, but as much as I respected him as a driver, he's nothing but a fool these days.

    Cheers,
    Ian

The cars are difficult to drive but they are a joke in terms of how physical they are to drive compared with years past. Much less power and weak cornering speeds relative to recent times

Honestly, if I had a month's worth of training I think I could turn a lap within 15 seconds of an F1 driver. That is a freaking eternity.

In that I literally have cows in my backyard let me settle it.
The Golden Age was the inter-war era.

Anything else need resolving? I and the cows are at your service.

    :D ;)

[hijack alert]I spent a summer long ago working on a dairy farm. Those cows would come home (the milking shed) like clockwork..... ;) [/hijack]

Inter-war era certainly had some good stuff. (I'm enjoying my Motorsport subscription BTW.....) downside was way too many guys left us too early though.

    Cheers,
    Ian
