Check the Hagerty guide after December when the movie came out. Sure, the market is up, but a car quadrupling in price? Gone in sixty seconds all over again. Funny thing is that the star car was supposed to be the Testarossa as described in the book

I disagree. Kirk Meighan's purchase of the Blue DD is where it began. THAT'S what raised eyebrows. That's what showed people that a collector and true Lambo guy was willing to pay more than its worth, at the time. If you are not a believer, pull all the threads from that era.

Hagerty is usually and hour late and a nickel short. I, for one, do not see Hagerty as the rule.

    All IMHO.

That movie did little, if any, to the values. The market has more to do with disposable income and the age of the buyer. Hagerty, Keith Martin and the rest are light years behind. Ferrari vintage sales certainly have not hurt values either.

The only thing that movie did for CT value is permanently change the number available. 1 less available = rarer
This has been discussed, but CT's are about 10 years late in following their appreciation.

I agree with Peters assessment of Hagerty as well. They report late what already happened.

Yes, I remember when I sold the DD to Kirk...but prior to him buying it...EVERYONE thought I was NUTS for the asking price...AND it has since been Re-SOLD by me to another collector at a record price for a DD car.

BUT you must also remember it was and still is an astounding car that's ALL there after I had all the work done to it.

    Agreed.

That and overall economic impetus is all that has anything to do with increasing values.

Harry from Evo/ Octane magazine proved to the world you can actually enjoy the worlds most iconic supercar by driving it zig zag ,north south ,east west, in several magazine stories, as far as the Poster car goes , he ,i belive gave a lot of byers the courage to push the butten an acctually go out and by one. Bravo to Harry.

Keith Martin's Sports Car Market suggested the previous value of the $1.8 M Countach was $125,000. WAAAAAYYYYY off. Those guides are not in keeping with lambos at all.

I'm allowing my subscription to expire and won't be renewing. He has always been behind the values on Lamborghini and there is only so much of the "Unbuttoned Shirt with Gold Chains" jokes that he and his contributors constantly write about that you can take year after year after year.

Common f-ing sense would tell a writer that if you're going to be writing an article in an upcoming issue, spend the time doing research. Not just pulling up old junk. Go to auctions or contact auction houses/sites. Most importantly, go on the boards, read and ask questions.

I would rather see a writer come on here, introduce himself/herself, alert us of what he's doing. I am sure a lot of us would be willing to guide them and suggest where and what threads to read.

To get paid for an article of blah blah blah stuff is beyond me....

    Exactly.

People who adored the Countach in the 1970s and 1980s as youths are now in their 40s, 50s and 60s with money to spend. The Countach revival has been blooming now for almost a decade.

While not exactly rare, there are only so many of these cars out there that have survived more or less, and a wide range of desirability among them.

Theoretically this will happen to the Diablo too (arguably happening already) but I think it will be to a drastically smaller extent as the Diablo was not the icon that the Countach was. Movies have nothing to do with it.

Yes, and the constant comments about difficult to drive and see out of, blah, blah, blah. I swear these guys have never driven one. I for one, am tired of Journalists driving cars expecting the cars to concede to them, vs them adjusting to the cars. Countach Rocks baby!

Keith s a sixpence/ Austin Healey kinda duude.or whatever. I also noticed he likes to stick it to the Countach.perhaps somthing happened as a young lad, who knows, he needs to get past whatever it might have been , and move on. There is plenty of pretty girls out there.

a bunch of sissies getting too cozy driving bentleys for a living... I think the journalist truely enjoying raw cars are dying and the young ones will compare them to Teslas not being able to understand thew very nature of the former.

Edit: the most sensible comment I ever heard was at the end of the 1st Lambo at 60mn. He summed it up real nice.

I simply do not fit in (1,90 m and rather slim). Neither into a Gallardo or Murci. Aventador just possible, but no chance with a helmet. I tried all of them. Legs too long and Charlie Brown head ....

Sissies drive rear engined Lambos, because they do not have the necessary power for controlling front engined Lambos (without power steering) at low and high cornering speeds ...

    ;) ;) ;)

Exactly, Keith is asleep at the wheel. He needs to stick to slower, easier cars to drive. A Countach is a mans car...effort is required and I love it :)

    I disagree Joe. I didn't see the movie so I don't want a Countach.

    Case closed. He's right.

I bought a copy of "The Goonies" because I loved it as a kid. We should have a sudden run on old Jeep Cherokees ( which I love ) or pirate ships ( which I also love ) can't decide.

movies have fascination on many of us

i always loved cannonball run, rain man, magnum p.i., etc...
many of us remember very well the cars in the movies and tv shows in the 80's and 90's

after watching wolf of wall street i would love a white testarossa or anniversary...honestly movies are a factor, may be small, but still a factor on cars appreciating...
