Sure! I have worked the whole weekend as Volunteer in the role of "Wayfinder".. I pick up the guests if they need any special information, and help to get them into the right spot. It's been tons of fun, I sneak into the FCA Suite, flirt with the Tequila Girls, and in general, bend every rule I can... I have an old classmate that built a mansion on South Congress, so we get out to the clubs from there, if my energy level can stand it.. 6AM to 6PM is a long day, especially covering the whole track as I do..
I am staying put this year and only going to Montreal. My contact at the Omni Hotel cant get me a room there due to the fact that they have 2 teams staying there and have the entire place booked for the weekend. It was a spur of the moment idea. Next year I will plan further ahead Thanks for all the advice.
Close Congress to the Federal Court House(just west of Guadalupe), and from 2nd to 5th street. A Total of about 12 city blocks... kind of a PITA for me since my office is in the W and my condo is 2 blocks away. I gave up on driving anywhere Justin
I would also look at VRBO or similar in lieu of a hotel. You might find a better deal(and something closer). I would NOT recommend any of the Austin "boutique" hotels. Most of those are pretty scummy. Justin
Bringing this thread back to life. We are driving down from TN, and currently have a room booked in New Braunfels. I just happened to be looking to see if there was anything closer at a decent rate and I found a couple, but I am not to sure about the areas and was wanting to get some opinions. Just wanting something a little closer, and an area that would be safe enough to leave the Lotus outside. The first hotel is a La Quinta (South/IH35) at the corner of I-35 and Hwy 290, it looks like it is basically surrounded by a bunch of car dealerships. The other one is also a La Quinta (Southwest at Mopac), it is near the Barton Creek Wilderness Park, and a mall. Thanks for the help guys.
I haven't, but not really wanting to use them either. I was really just wanting to know what the areas are like for those hotels. If they're not that great, We'll probably just stay in New Braunfels.
San Marcos here. Close to toll road. Austin will be zoo. Just need place to sleep. Crime doubtful huge issue, just hide V1, stuff in car. Hope I'll see some of you clowns. I'll be the guy in the mask, daughter and son in tow.
Main grandstand, covered. Forget which section, friend got tickets. 126? Gotta check. Kids wrinkled noses at Kid Rock. Will pm when I figure out. Hope we can get together, FC'ers doing something? We've got 3d passes, kids want pit passes. Oy. Poor white trash can't do that. Figure San Marcos commute should be OK. Toll road won't be as fun as usual with the revenuers out passing coupons. Good thing I have a wagon, they're slow
We stayed with a bunch of the Dallas crew last year in Round Rock. You can jump on the 80mph toll road and be at the track in under 30 minutes, with very little traffic. The first year we stayed at one of the Ferrari Club room blocks near the Arboreteum, and the traffic getting to the toll road was not great.
Campsites are available at the Bastrop Ranch (next to Lost Pines) as far as I know.... I'll be in by Thursday night, Jesse Dayton at Broken Spoke show..... Big green house S Congress at Live Oak. Ferrari is NOT in the alley!! Next to Lucy's Chicken. Lingerie store closed though, bummer
I have my notes from Employee Orientation if any one has questions about the new stands configuration. Fewer basically, don't get trapped past 3,4,5 as there is very little support transportation wise. Beer Garden at 6 ADA at 9 then, rocks out to T11...
Go with the Gruene Mansion Inn, or the Homestead Inn up the street, Wonderful suites both places!!! Get away from IH35!! You are welcome. Who is at Gruene Hall??? Riley's Tavern also has some cute rooms behind the bar. never have stayed there
Thanks for the advice guys, we went with the place off S Mopac. The area looked nice on google maps and had a couple other people say it was a good area.
Nice Holiday Express in Pleasant Valley, which is not technically Austin. Glad you got sorted! See you Thursday night in the Broken Spoke!!
Are you going to be there? I have nothing else planned. The only wheels I'll have is one of the Ferrari's. Can I park it there?
Add mudflaps, a gun rack, and you're golden. Alan, kids have nixed Broken Spoke, Uncle Radney not playing (nor Luke/Jason). Also, have nixed Kid Rock too. BBQ probably, would kill for pit passes Fri (one hitter 13, other 10) Speciale shipping to SEMA Wednesday, wagon dragging 3 of us around.
