Sold for 55$, well bought! http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/ferraris/458883-fs-factory-95-355-challenge-w-vin-rare-spares.html
My 2-time CCR Champion car will be listed shortly, but it's a '98 so not street legal. But it is the fastest CCR legal 355 on the planet!
This is not correct. I owned a '97 factory built 355CH, the VIN is a 17 digit North American number with the "A" in the number as all '97/'98 factory CH cars had. I was able get a title for the car(bonded for three years) and registered/renewed for the ten years I owned it. I also checked with Dick Merritt to see if there was any type of a list "list" at the EPA or DOT for challenge cars, there wasn't. As was said earlier it probably would not pass a vehicle inspection that some states require but it was titled and registered in a state that did not require it. An interesting side note was what the MSO disclosed the car to be: "This vehicle conforms to U.S. EPA and state of California regulations applicable to 1994 model year new motor vehicle" The MSO is dated 9/05/97. The 1994 date refers to the 2.7 motronic and no air bags. The model designation on the MSO is stated as "F355 B Challg"
Hi Mike, the 355CH was a combination of various parts from different 355s. The engine management system is the 2.7 motronic from the '94-'95 model its airflow was better because of the 2 airflow meters and it had fewer sensors than the 5.2 that would trip CELs (example, fuel cap being lose the fuel neck is a non unleaded type). This would be the reason the MSO states that the car compiles with 1994 regs. The headers were also from the earlier 2.7 system with the upper y pipe from non cat cars, ie; South Africa/Middle East and no valve, this version flows better than the 5.2 system. The rest of the exhaust was specific to the CH. It is surprising the number of specific parts that it takes to make a 355CH outside of what I mentioned above, the list is long.
Thanks - I have a 355CH (http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/138259137-post11.html) I was curious to see if the 97-98-99 cars where retrofitted with the M2.7, I'm assuming they would have started off as M5.2 cars ex factory. M
All of the factory '97-'98 CH cars came from the factory with 2.7 engine management. This was a large part of why they weren't street legal in the US (of course there are other reasons too). The EPA regs. changed in '96 to OBDII. (5.2 motronic). The 2.7 made a little more power and was more simplistic than the 5.2, ie; didn't have as many monitoring sensors and only 2 02 sensors than the 5.2. Since these cars weren't intended for street use Ferrari didn't need to federalize them. The later the car was in the run of CH units the more of the "challange kit" was installed at the factory. The car I owned had the pre '98 update CH pieces on the car from the factory that '98 update kit was added by the sponsoring dealer. The biggest part of that update was the rear wing. I was surprised Ferrari had convinced the DOT and the EPA to let the cars in the country without some sort of better contol. Maybe a different VIN no. that would throw up a red flag if some goof ball like myself tried to get it registered, LOL. Although most dealers would not release the MSO to the buyer so that would stop a lot people from getting titles for them.
NNNOOOOOO!!!! On second thought, that CCR Champion watch could be mine.... BTW, why is it so fast? Couldn't catch that thing all season. Must be illegal, that's why you're selling it. lol
