Well, Here it is, for all of you true car enthusiasts that like to do some of your own service work, especially oil changes. Yeah, I know......my car is now worth nothing. I don't have a dealer invoice for $500.00 saying that they changed my oil. No one will want to touch my car now that I have committed the ultimate blasphamy! Well, let me tell you..........previous oil changes done by the dealer had left out a couple of bolts. Who knows what else was done or wasn't done by those apprentice oil changers! Enjoy! Thanks for sharing. After my seven year free maintenance runs out I can spend a few thou on a lift and DYI. Best
Don't need to buy a lift, just bring this post to a local mechanic, they will DI4Y (do it 4 you) for $50 if you bring along your own engine oil, and go home with a clean hand.
Ha ha! That 7 year "free" maintenance on your 2012 & newer wasn't free! It was an obligatory option included in the purchase price.
True true true. It's a bad deal if you always keep the car in the garage. But if you drive it like you stole it, then it's a good deal.
Jeff @ AZlambo Can we put holes in the rear diffuser and under tray to drain the oil ? In my 360 they had them it made it ok to drain the oil . Only the transmission oil had to remove the tray. I changed the oil myself on my 360 for 11 years and had no problem in selling it. I will have 6 years to wait and see if the 458 will be able to be change to drain. Thanks for the procedure. Peter Vero Beach FL.
I would imagine that you could hole-saw out holes in the under tray for draining the oil, But I didn't check to see how high up the drain holes are compared to the undertray. All of the drain holes drain directly DOWN, so that part wouldn't be a problem. You might need to make some Fiberglas "cones/cylinders" to go up to the drain holes, so that oil and/or drain plugs couldn't fall onto the top of the undertray.
I would do this too when the 7 years expired, but not diy. I will bring it to an oil change workshop and let them see this. For some people who say that this would make nobody dares to buy the car, I don't think so. When you buy a used Ferrari, you would want a Ferrari dealer to check it for you. This oil change won't destroy anything. And the bill for oil change from Ferrari dealer is not $500 but $1,500. They wash your car and vacuum it though.
I will wash and vacuum your car for only $800................. Will throw in the oil change for an extra $200.
thanks for posting this!! it's fun working on cars of all makes! Jeff @ AZlambo...have you noticed 458 with different fastening hardware on the floors and diffusers?
Thanks for this info. I could see myself doing this or take it to a reputable shop to do it after my 7 year plan ends if I still own it. $1500 for this is a rip off even if you have the cash!
AZLambo - I would only add that you will get more of the old oil to drain faster and more fully if you first make sure the oil is warm before you begin and second, remove the Cap/dip stick and the old filter while it is still draining. Also, when finished and checking for leaks, don't forget to check around the oil filter cap to make sure you have seated the cap and new rubber ring completely. Lastly, good advice to put the covers back on after checking for leaks down below. Enjoy.
