Would you be willing to provide details of construction? Plans maybe? How is the glass attached to the wheel? What kind of glass (assume tempered for strength)? etc etc....

    Thanks!

    gp

p.s. - could you tell that I also have a wheel at home and have been thinking of something similar? For years now, like maybe 16 years?? It's an old Ferrari Challenge Speedline wheel from when the F355s were the current Challenge "hot rods".

The base is just a 24 inch round that I guess is normally used for table tops, and the post is actually 4 1x4's that are glued and nailed together. I took the dimensions of the inside of the post and cut a piece of another 1x4 to that size and nailed it to the base in the center (a cleat). Then, i just slid the post right over the cleat, put a few nails in it, and that's really it. The part that the wheel actually sits on on top of the post is just two more pieces of 1x4 nailed and glued down. I placed the wheel on top of that, used three of the lug nut holes as a guide to drill the holes and then just secured the wheel to the top of the post using a few big nuts and bolts. After i drilled the holes i took the wheel off and used a jigsaw to cut that platform into a circle so you couldn't see the big wooden square through the top of the table. The glass is just resting on top of a few rubber pads that are on each of the spokes and yes, it is tempered glass. For me, this was just a fun little project because I like working with wood, and I love cars. If anyone is interested in getting a table like this, send me a PM and i'll see what we can work out!

    Thank you very much!

The wheel I have is nowhere near as pretty, but, being race-battle-scarred, it's got stories!

Appreciate the info - it's moving up on my project list.

    gp

p.s. - I really like the quarter-round trim, nice touch!

curious why you wouldn't use a solid 4x4 for the post? Your system certainly works, but a solid 4x4 would elminate some steps like the glue up and nailing. looks good.

Thanks guys! I thought about using a solid 4x4, but i figured it'd be too heavy. Plus, it'd be a bit more difficult to cut. I've made a few since the 458 wheel (that was the first one I made) and I've been making slight improvements on each one. Im working on an alcantara wrapped one now that I have a Maserati wheel for.

And like Meister said, a friend of mine owns a glass shop so he cut the glass for me and polished it until it was nice and smooth

    Awesome!! Great work. :)

I'd love one of these. Would look perfect in the office right next to the Ferrari office chair. :D
