    I like them, cool old cars and serious performers for their time.

    you can see some of the styling cues in the current Continental, mostly the front fender/headlight curve and the rear quarter panel.

    btw, I had no idea these were so valuable...last time I looked (which was ages ago), these were ~$200k.

    I had no idea either! But the classic car world is this way apparently. If the article is correct, it's one of three in right hand drive with automatic transmission. This could also have something to do with the lofty price tag. Also it's an auction, which means it COULD reach that amount.

    Plus I agree with the resemblance. The tornado line (I believe it's called) is near enough identical. Good spot!

    The R type Bentley,and its sister,the RRsilver Dawn,preceeded the Cloud 1. The R type was made in sizeable numbers at the factory,and is always refered to as the 'standard steel'. It did of course,have a proper chassis,and coachbuilders,Mulliner,Park-Ward and others built special bodies on some of these . The fastback,and the continental drophead are both rare,and their sale prices have soared lately. The standard car is ,well,pretty ordinary.
