All this coy nonesense is just silly. He's got no play. McLaren... and they shouldn't have to pay him a ton. Where else is he going to go? Lotus, Marussia? They barely have any money and Santander isn't going to foot the entire bill.

Bernie has said there will not be 3 car teams next year, so he's out of options. Unless we're all being fooled and it's Vettel that actually jumps to McLaren, this is already all played out.

If i were mclaren id offer a boatload of money because he's an amazing driver but put a time stamp on it. Every day after he makes us wait the total offer goes down by 1M

He'll make a decision real quick then

If he's going to McLaren it's up to them to make the announcement, not him. Maybe he's avoiding getting ahead of the story, unlike Vettel.

I think the most overwhelming feeling, once the outcome it known, will be sheer bl00dy relief :D

Fernando Alonso has remained cautious with his public comments as he attempts to build a smokescreen about his plans for the future.

The Spaniard recently appeared at a press conference where he didn't let any new information slip and continued repeating the same story he has been recently giving out. He says that recent rumours that he's already signed for McLaren for the next two seasons can be disregarded.

"One week it's McLaren saying something, last week it was Lotus and [Gerard] Lopez saying he was in talks about me and my future. Every day is a rumour and even today I read that I had bought Marussia for one dollar. It's absolutely not true! It's not the priority at the moment because we are racing here, with 75 people working on two cars to deliver a good result on Sunday, and this is what it's all about", he explained.

He said that it wouldn’t be hard for next year to be better than 2014. "It has been a difficult year, only getting on the podium twice, with too many problems and not being competitive enough. That's why I'm sure that everything will be better next year, which doesn't mean you'll win, that you'll be on the podium, because that's always very difficult", said the driver.

Finally, there's the possibility of him going on a sabbatical and returning to Ferrari in the future: "I have the ability to choose where I want to go to over these final years of my career. I'll have to see what my best option is".

Mansour Ojjeh is regaining his health, but during his near-death illness Dennis took advantage to wrest some control away from him. Ugly, but Dennis will do anything if it is to his advantage. If Ojjeh had stayed healthy there would be no talk of Alonso returning, as he can't stand him and stated years ago he would never be back to the team. Ojjeh places a higher value on principals than Dennis.

    But Pat Simmonds says "NO"...

To sum-up from french: "Fernando Alonso is the best there is on the market, but as a team Williams is not ready to handle such a hot property and that would jeopardize our rebuilding progress and could even be destructive, so we are not interested, he is not the ideal driver for Williams"

Does it not end with pero que si which I believe more or less means -: well at least I think so

By the way Andreas : why if the deal is done so long ago is there the whole kerfuffle this weekend about deadlines from both Boullier & Alonso - please ask your mate Benoit (if he can drag himself away from investigating Hamilton's sex life....)

Yes, but the "pero" was just after he realized he had talked too much and tried to cover-up, before he was pretty sure about what he was saying....and let's face it, it´s the only thing that makes any sense....

I believe that this is mutual effort by Ferrari and McLaren to A. save Ferrari from having to pay out his contract by having Fernando speak first and B. to drive down Fernando's rate to McLaren.

He is taking a beating now reputation wise. How much longer will he stay in F1. He is great and also it appears just as much detrimental to a team.

I had suggested that option as well. This would be hilarious "Felipe, move over for Alonso for 2015. He's faster than you"

Symonds is probably still angry that he received a 5 year ban for CrashGate, but Teflonso played innocent/stupid ("I don't know why I made a totally illogical pit stop on lap 11, I just do what I'm told") and got away unpunished. It would be funny if karma has Symonds denying Alonso a place at Williams. :D
