hey I just noticed your in Boston........my favorite NA city. I get out there fairly frequently......next time we should hook up for a beer.
OK that will be fun. I have the stock drivers side wheels off now and will be pulling the center caps shortly. I've been a little concerned the the vendor-suggested all 40 profile tires don't appear to match as well front to back. When I checked the tires on the stock rims they are: 215/50-17 255/45-17 and match better proportionally front to back. Maybe the shorter fronts will turn in better but now I am starting to wonder. Using some tire comparators online, it looks like the car will have a little more rake with the front end being lower, and I don't really need that. Update: After analyzing things all over the place with a newer tire comparator, I am only looking at 0.5 cm difference on each side of the tire diameter on the fronts. If it really bugs me I'll get new fronts at a 235/40-18 size which is very close to the previous 215/50-17. Vendor suggested 40s. Now I just wish the rain would quit but it looks like it's here past the F1 race tomorrow including some snow! God help us.
Hmm, another setback. Turns out second generation 348 rear lug bolts are too LONG for the OZ centers. They were milled by either OZ or the vendor and look good but the design change got lost in the shuffle. The tire edges sit right were I want them, flush with the fender, but the center cove curves in a little more than the fronts. With the wider hub already in place and the wider rotor hat, the threads bottom out with about 15mm to spare before the conical seat meets. Ah well, I am going to the F1 watch party at the dealer tomorrow and the sales rep I saw tonight told me the parts manager will be there. He was taking pictures of an F12 for a client. NE Ferrari in Norwood has a Rosso 512 TR behind ropes in the center of the showroom. The Giallo Enzo is in one bay window, and an MC-12 is in the other one on the Maserati side. Awesome. Lots of 458s and Gran Turismos there.
Update. Parts manager was there at the USGP party. Got my two sets of short lug bolts ordered. Be here Wednesday. FCA discount. Thanks! Cost about the same per corner as my wheel and tire package!
I saw a pic of a Fchat members car a yellow spider toe'd out hard in the rear, lowered with after market rims...anyone know whos car that is i really want to ask some questions about that setup so I can copy it...looks amazing
The 348s have adjustable coil overs. Mine is pretty low but not slammed. It has a little camber at the rear right now. Here are some detail pics of the rear rims while I wait for the lug bolts to arrive. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
I know the perfect set of wheels. These are called the 348 and are made by fifteen52 out of california. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Cool but I like mine. Freshly down off stands. No settling or drop. Torqued but cramped quarters do to rain. Turn car around to do other side. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Like the wheels but it looks like you are going to have to lower the car to get the fit right. But then you will be scraping the front of the car on every speed bump and driveway. Thank you for being the guinea pig. The do look nice.
Haha, backwards, love it. My rears are larger in diameter then the older package. Fronts are smaller and haven't been driven or settled yet. I'm leaning towards getting another set of front tires at higher profile or diameter combo. Dissappointed that vendor was so far off. But still need to see the chassis settle. I'll turn the car back around and pump the brakes, rock the car. Some local shops around may have the tires in the larger size. Should I swap them? I was going to drive to my brothers in Philly tomorrow. What a biatch!
Yeah I'm freaking out a bit. Got in the car and turned it around. rocked it a little too. Stood on passenger sill. It's coming down. I'll have luggage tomorrow too. I think I can live with it. Not so much donk now. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
So I put 800 miles on them this past weekend. Back and forth to Philly and 4 rides for family. Looks better but it's about an inch lower in front. Here is the car loaded and ready to go on Friday. Image Unavailable, Please Login
It's the new TIRE dimensions and trunk weight. The vendor app suggested a 225/40-18 which is 2cms smaller in total diameter then the stock 215/50-17. The Bridgstone PPs on it now have a little sidewall tilt, on a larger width front an back. It has that tuner slam, fender tuck potential. I do not want to slam it. I just want it to be as close to stock on the larger and wider wheel. Going to a 45 profile is taller on an 18 but may work. Going to a 235 width should be just about right if a little closer to the fender lip or suspension. It's not bad and the comparators I've looked at show it very close to stock. This offset wheel up front, 40mm, is better than stock. It sits closer to the fender opening, a little more flush. With the 235 width, it's just 6mm wider and should be just about perfect if not slammed and possibly rubbing. Grip was good and turn in a little more crisp, but the lower front lip is bad. I scraped leaving a gas station on the way down. Doh! I love these wheels though, and they are better ventilated and hardly saw any dust buildup.
Just lower it, what can happen ? the front lip is easy to fix . lol i run 225/40/18 front and 275/30/18 rear
Well the trunk is full. That may be throwing things forward. The rear set is actually TALLER than stock. Unloaded, the fronts look a little Donky. A 235 40 18 should sit right where the stocks do within a few mms. It will be a little wider but there should be space around the suspension AND it will stick out a little more flush with the fender. I just don't want to end up with different side wall angles relative the rim. This calculator will show you the loss of 2 cms with a 225/40-18 instead of 215/50-17 Custom rims, wheel tire packages for your ride - RIMSnTIRES.com It settled more during the trip. 275!? Drive it please post a pic. And the unmatched profiles I think are key to the balance.
I run a 275/40/18 on 360 wheels on my 90 TS. The car came with 215/45/18's on the front but have some front fender rubbing issues so I'm droping down to 225/35/18 on fronts. I'm convinced my car has been lowered. Before you go with alower new front tire, I'd drop it a little in the front first. Image Unavailable, Please Login
