I dont understand why Mercedes are deemed the bad guys in this.
Like every one else they were given a set of rules and they ended up doing the best job, like redbull did for 4 years.

Good. Feck off mercedes. Go play ''hybrid's only or else'' elsewhere. Maybe buy Formula E and play there.

    Now let there be noise.

I think that Mercedes wrote the rules. Really, who wanted this formula and who benefits?

First off, its Niki so it may or may not be MB's official position.
Secondly, this is the danger of relying on the big automakers. If things don't suit them they'll take their ball and go home and to heck with the sport.

Agree. I enjoyed the sport more before the manufacturers started running the show.

2.5 V10 with that ERS. Sensational speed I reckon. Easily 1000hp.

Whatever spec they pick next it should be something that doesn't require a major manufacturer to produce.

How about an equivalency formula for non turbocharged hybrid engines? I say open up the engine configurations.

    Amen.

Set the fuel quantity and flow rate; and have at it.

Agreed on the quantity but not on the flow rate.

But what if, after a huge spending in R&D that leads almost all teams to bankrupcy, everybody realizes that an inline-four turbo offers the best balance of power and fuel consumption?

    Uh-oh.

When other teams originally wanted the engine specs changed they threatened to quit. I believe they threatened to quit over the legal but illegal test as well.

Wasn't it mentioned on here a time or two that they had been developing the new powerplant long before anyone else was and had essentially bet the farm on it?

I´d agree with you if Lauda was not the same one who was complaining about the tyres last season.

The sticker is that any change in engine specs will mean greater costs for F1 than staying with the current motors.
