A nine-year bump. How did he find the thread at all?

At a place like Carnevor you have a team of 3-4 serving you. Not sure how the "back end" allocation works but if they all divide it up, that $25/$30 doesn't go very far.

Used the search function. I did not want to start a new thread if one or more was already going on. But I did not see the last post date. Still better to add to this one instead of starting a new one.

A very good answer and it answers my question completely. Thanks. Knowing this I'll leave a more substantial tip.

But: If we both have much lower cost dinners and I leave say 20% they still split a smaller tip. I'll leave a bigger tip either way.

    Thanks

If you are spending big on a nice meal a good wait staff will up their game accordingly and earn it. We tend to go to a few places and do so sort of regularly rather than every place in town. I tip pretty well when they do their job and it doesn't take too long before I am very well taken care of.

Jason...You'd feel a lot older if in 2005, you had already graduated almost 20 years previously! :)...T

More very good advice. I have no problem tipping big if I know things like this. When we go I'll be very prepared tip wise and I will not have to feel uncomfortable not knowing what would be the proper amount.

I think this will be a useful topic for others also.

    Thanks
    Rodney

Btw not sure if you have ever been to Carnevor or not but it is our favorite restaurant in Milwaukee by far. The donuts for dessert are amazing!

9 year old thread brought back to life.

And some folks here say the search function is lousy. :D

Proof positive that "search" is your friend.

Oh, and tip a lot when the service is excellent, tip ok when it's ok, and tip lousy when the service is lousy, and then take a minute to find the manager, and tell him/her why you left a crappy tip. BE SPECIFIC. He wants to know because if the service was bad enough for you to leave a lousy tip, you're probably not coming back, and that's the LAST thing he wants to see.
