Come race day I haven't missed the sound of the engines once this year. But this was heart warming ; )
LOL yup the good old days, I have been up close, I know only too well twas great stuff, however my fingers were firmly planted in my ears... Seems a distant memory to me now ... but I'am still on here chatting broken biscuits about F1 with my friends and foes.. and that's all good in my book..
+1 Well said. Further, they're doing it with ~30% less go juice. They're once again pushing the technical envelope. Part of what F1 should be about. If you don't like it there's plenty of other series (with empty stands) to go & watch. I'll stick with F1 thankyou very much. Cheers, Ian

I think we're all agreed on that. All we can hope for at this stage is that it doesn't affect the outcome. Otherwise there will be a world wide shortage of asterisks as someone noted recently. But, with all due respect, your other claims as to why it's 'ruined' were ludicrous at best. Cheers, Ian
I hate the double points but they are not that far fetched: just look at NASCAR and its chase for the cup
The noise has always been a big part of the sport. One of the reasons my son watches F1, however this year he has been turned off because of how horrible they sound. My son are the type of fans F1 should worry about.
Add me to that list . I simply won't attend another F1 race unless it switches to V8s (even if they're turbo, but V8s). F1 is a joke now. Austin was a waste of money for me.
wow...that was awesome to watch and hear. I've changed my mind about how good the new cars sound. I DO like the sound, but it's nothing compared to this. Funny how one forgets.
The lack of noise is a huge issue. I have heard from people that went to Austin that there was a LOT of grumbling from fans at how poor they sound. I, for one, will not be attending a race until they fix it. +1 Glorious. And still the fastest race car of all time....TEN YEARS later.
That's the model we should emulate? A bit like saying that a Michelin starred restraunt should be more like MacDonalds since they sell so many burgers.
My point is that a comparison with the NFL is far fetched. Compare it with the most popular form of motor sports in the U.S. instead. NASCAR is not my thing but they sure know how to market and sell their series and how to keep their fans involved and happy. All areas where F1 could learn a good deal. At least after ten years F1 finally copied NASCARs movable onboard cameras
I get that. Both the NFL and NASCAR are huge financial successes and there are a few lessons that F1 might learn from each but none of those lessons has anything to do with sports.

Just because your opinion differs from mine does not mean my claims are ludicrous. They are all important points to me and they are things that are turning me off to today's F1. They may not matter to you but they matter to me, sorry.
I apologize. My tone there, particularly without the requisite 'IMO' was out of line. Sorry. Everyone's certainly entitled to their opinions, even if most are wrong! (not referring to you specifically here BTW!) However, your thread title kind of 'raised my hackles'; I certainly beg to differ that F1 is ruined! And particularly not for the reasons you stated; - totally agree on the noise & double points BS. - they've done some true beauties over the years, but in general, I think most agree 'pretty' (opposite of 'ugly' to me) is not a trait of many, at least in the modern (aero dominated) era. Sure, their noses look pretty stupid right now, but hopefully they'll get that in order next year. - teams have always 'appeared & disappeared'. Part of the game IMO. - we've also pretty much always had 'pay drivers'. Used to be called 'gentlemen drivers' back in the day of course..... - they're always changing teams - Fangio in particular was considered a master of being in the right place at the right time. Others, completely the opposite! - I, personally, my opinion etc (), have no problem with the V6's and their ERS systems. (Apart from the noise of course) They're pushing the technological envelope again at last. I do think they were all a little caught out by the costs, but most of them got through OK. All right, thank you, apology accepted and I'll admit "ruined" was a somewhat over-the-top word to describe the current state of things but I just find it depressing. I also know that teams/drivers would change but it now seems like it goes on way too often and mid-season which is weird and dampens the enthusiasm. Contract talks should be suspended during the season to avoid all this, there is plenty of time in the off season IMO. and a point is a point is a point. Why is Abu Dhabi more of a valuable race than Monza or Montreal? I know they try to fix things but it's not working for me...

Just when sponsors are increasingly difficult to find, this latest blow will make life even more difficult.
They should also ban having car brands on the F1 cars because thousands of people die every year in car accidents! We really shouldn't be encouraging people to buy or use vehicles that could kill them!
The hell with the V6s; let's demand V12s from here on out. Think of the sound! Let the BMW and Porsche crowds wallow in V6s.
