How do you feel when you go to drive your Ferrari?

Its an wonderful event for me. I try to figure new places to drive it. If driving my Ferrari becomes like driving my other cars that's when I'll sell it!

 

I drive mine about 6 days a week. Have done so for 8 years now, and I still get that "little kid doing something he shouldn't be" feeling, along with all the other stuff mentioned. Every single time!!

 

Depemds on the road and traffic.

 

We have snow on the ground for almost 8 months. As spring approaches I get really impatient waiting for the roads to clear off. Starting the car for the first time in almost 8 months is a very special deal for me.

 

I'm the same way. It doesn't make me feel rich at all. I'm not thinking like that when I drive it. All I am thinking beyond the driving is "this is the good stuff!".

 

I feel like a kid. Nothing else in the world can bother me. Forget about all the problems, even forget my own name. There's only me, my senses and my racing machine. The most addictive and raw experience I can have.

Like the former World Rally Championship winner Gigi Galli once said:

"The best thing a clothed man can do is drive sideways".

I'd update that a bit: "The best thing a clothed man can do is drive a Ferrari!!!"

Great observation.
My C/4 gave the garage a unique smell (when it wasn't leaking gas at the fuel rail). After it was sold, I acquired a 250 GTE. Same unique smell. I don't know what it is but no other vintage/collector/hot rod/race car has had it.

And BTW..... I DON'T FEEL RICH when I drive my car. I don't care about attracting crowds. What I care about is the character of the car. That's what makes them a Ferrari.

 

Nuno beat me to it. There are feelings of accomplishment, gratitude and (let's not kid ourselves here) vanity. But what stands out is none of those.

I couldn't find a simple way to describe it, but I realised this morning what it is that the Ferrari gives me. Every time I drive it, I feel like a little kid with the best toy in the world. And nobody else shares this feeling, right here and right now.

Then I woke up and realised my car is undergoing a major, with a possible blown header.

 

Excited to drive all the time. Happy & feel lucky after the drive.

 

Character for me too. But then I feel a little warm too rowing through the gears. And thrilled my wife cared enough to make it possible.

 

Pure excitement and a little nervousness as I have yet to up my insurance coverage.

 

When someone pulls up next to me.

"This assshole better not try and race me"

That's what goes through my head.

 

Usualy a little nervous because its always a question of how much fun vs civillian road tolerance and potential consequnces from unenlightened beurocrats.

I always love the process though, opening the garage, starting it, leaving it to warm up while I go upstairs brush my teeth finish dressing. 10 mins later all good to go.

 

I worry a bit about getting a ticket for not displaying a license plate on the front of my F-car.

Otherwise, it's akin to driving a work of automotive art / sculpture.

Imagine a Renoir with twelve cylinders.

 

My daughter told me last night that my state passed a law legalizing the absence of a front plate if the manufacturer left no accommodation for it. If true, its one less thing to cloud my thoughts of Ferrari driving bliss. But to tell you the truth I don't think the locals would have ticketed for it. No other car around like it and, as you point out, what a work of art/sculpture.

I will say that its been two weeks since I even started it up and I'm really Jonesing for some Italian V12!!

 

I've been trying to figure out how to list my 328 as a "medical expense".

That flat-crank V8 rumble always seems to make my digestion work better.

 

You can add anti-depressant. I always come home in a great mood.

 

For me the anticipation builds when I plan a drive. I explain to others that I have a pre-plan to take a drive just like you do when flying aircraft. The morning of my drive is the best time! I enjoy every sip of coffee and the drive to my car in my BMW 850. Seeing the 512TR under the car cover is the best feeling. I know I am about to see the Cavalino come to life and let the 12 cylinders warm up. The smell of the interior is awesome. I wipe her off while it warms up. I know I'm about to have a great day and I try to enjoy every minute because at the end of the day it is over way too soon.

I enjoy the early mornings most. I enjoy seeing the reflections of the sun rise and the morning dew blow on and off the car. I think how lucky I am to own such a rare and beautiful car. I reflect on how many years I wanted one and how much work it took to get one!

I feel like a little girl who just won a beauty pageant. I think to myself "Yea. Thats right. You did it. You made it in life. All your work paid off. Oh ****, whats that rattling noise?" Two hours later at the dealer, tears of despair as I receive a diagnosis of an expensive ass fix. Then I go to a park, sit on a bench, light a cigarette, and contemplate life. "Why? Why God? What do you want from me? Why can't I be like those Porsche owners, I want to be like them!" Then I go to the Porsche dealership and compulsively buy a Carrera GT. Then my wife sees the car and asks how much. Then we fight. Then I go back to the park and smoke another cigarette. "God, why does she have to be such a b*&#^, I love her but c'mon!" Then I go to my friends place, light a J and play call of duty. Go home at 2 in the morning, see a note on the fridge "Dinner is in the warming drawer, love you , ill be in bed. And all is well.
