He doesn't have the warmest personality, has he?

Alonso always looks like he is sulking.

Give me Ricciardo any time to brighten my day ....

I didn't mean to suggest anyone here is wrong if they think he is good. I also think he is at least top 2 or 3 currently in terms of ability. I just found it amusing that despite this, so many people dislike him.

I don´t remember a single interview where I had the impression that he is very simpatico nore did I see any sense of humor compared to others. His statements lately ("If I tell where to go everybody will understand...", "I do what is best for Ferrari...", "I am not certain about where I go but I have it in my head for a few months...") do not help either as one gets the impression that he apparently thinks that the whole drivers market is acting on him...I do not know the contract with Ferrari but it is strange that you just have to behave like a stinker getting fired to get a double paycheck from Ferrari and McLaren...

It is widely reported that Mark Webber was one of the nicest blokes in F1, a down to earth guy and a real straight shooter.

It was also widely reported that he and Alonso were good friends.

I've never met either of them, but if the above is true, then that's good enough reason for me to like Alonso.

    His driving speaks for itself.

    We will see next year;

    a) if Vettel can do better than him at Ferrari
    b) what Alonso can do on a McLaren-Honda.

It won't really tell us much about their driving ability though.

If Ferrari does well, we won't know if it's just the car has improved.

If McLaren does badly, we won't know if it's because Alonso can't extract the performance or if it's a dog.

Yeah, that is what makes it hard. All I know is that he destroyed a WDC for a teammate this year and his resume over the years speaks for itself.

Did he really destroy his teammate or did his teammate do that all by himself?

If you follow F1 closely, and know the drivers, you soon see where the problem is - driver or car.
You can also assess a driver's performance against his previous form, or against his team mate.

If the 2015 Ferrari is outstanding, we will see Vettel and Raikkonen fly in it.

... as if this writing, a short list (in no particular order), in remembrance of everyone Fernando's thrown under the bus during the course of his illustrious career:

1). Minardi, in favor or Renault (e.g., Giancarlo Minardi) -
2). Renault, in favor of McLaren (e.g., Pat Simmonds; Flavio Briattori) -
3). Ron Dennis; Martin Whitmarsh; Paddy Lowe; Nigel Stepney; Mike Conghlin; Pat Fry (Hungary; 2007) -
4). Romain Grosjean; Heikki Kovalinan; Franck Montagny; José María López -
5). Pat Simmonds; Flavio Briatori; Nelsonho Piquet (e.g., Singapore, 2008) -
    6). Renault, for Ferrari (2009) -
7). his wife (traded in, on a newer model) -
8). Felipe Massa; Stephano Domenicali, Luca di Montezemolo, Luca Marmorini -
    9). Ferrari, for McLaren
10). to be summarily dismissed, all current McLaren employees who do not approve of Alonso's return -

... throughout the course of his illustrious career, Fernando got considerable help. Didn't he? Where are all these people, now? Did Fernando reciprocate, helping them? Was he fiercely loyal, to them? Or, was it scorched Earth, those instrumental to his success, thrown under the bus?

After elevating him to two world driving titles, Fernando dumped Renault, high and dry. For McLaren? For refusal to grant him number 1 status did Fernando turn-out Stepney, Coughlin, et alia? Burned bridges behind him, upon return to Renault, first thing Fernando demanded, that Heikki be summarily fired? Two fruitless years back at Renault, Pat Simmonds and Flavio Briatori fell on their swords for him, and were subsequently expelled from Formula 1? Nelsonho's career was destroyed; Grosjean's career nearly destroyed, only now we discover, Romain was very likely the faster driver?

Development drivers behind the scenes critical to Alonso's success, Heikki Kovalainen, Franck Montagny and José María López, who did set-up for Fernando's two championships, are long filtered out of F1. Doing his own development, his last two years at Renault he languished, only way he could think to hoist Renault to the sharp end of the grid was, manipulating his teammate? Real peach of a guy, even his wife -- he traded her in on a newer model.

Stuck on a desert island with Fernando Alonso, you'd be dead by sundown -- asj.

+1 Yet another abusive, ranting troll thread from the OP.

Bigger question - why do people (who know the OP's history here and should know better) dignify the OP's threads with serious responses?

    Don't feed the troll!

Like him or not, Alonso is the best driver on the grid.
    Hamilton is a close second.
