Daytona driving tips ?

is this a fun track? Is it a large attachment track?

 

I'm not really a fan of Oval / Infield road courses, although Daytona is probably my favorite of those. The banking loses it's novelty fairly quickly. The speeds are good cocktail party talk, but don't really feel that much different due to the size of the track. Fun? sure. Large attachment track? Not really.

 

BTW here's my surprise, my new a Corvette Daytona Prototype

At Daytona now, going to watch the videos & drop a few seconds tomorrow. Still slow as I have only 30 min track time in this monster so far but I'm comfortable w it at 160mph now

At Daytona you should be 200+

 

Sure, with enough track time but not straight out of box. Got to work up to it

 

If you exit the stop have way decently you will be 200 before T1.

Saw near 170 on front straight today so that's near 10mph faster than yesterday

Even the Pescarolo LMP900 car is only at 184 doing a 1:38.5 lap (at or under the Rolex 24 pole lap last year).

Downforce has a cost...

I'm talking about a 458C. I suspect Hubble's car can do that, but i"m guessing, maybe too much wing?

You were right, I was wrong. While the drag and restricted engine output on the DP cars still don't allow them to reach 200, there are other cars that CAN do that.

Here is an unrestricted, twin turbo, 997.2 GT2 (yes, GT2, not GT3) Porsche science project James Sofronas put together for this event. James passed my friend David Porter's LMP1 Pescarolo at twenty mph+ onto the super stretch!

Took CDP from 1:59 down to 1:53 on my 2nd drive in it

1:59 to 1:53 very good, but far easier than 1:53 to 1:49.

1:49 to 1:45 is going to be very difficult. Even JC and David Hinton weren't anywhere close to that, both Rolex 24 veterans. To do this, you will need to slide the car around. A lot.

Get Eric to help you devise an incremental plan for that. It's not the top speed that will help you do that. It's 3-6 mph faster through T1, the Horseshoe, East and T6, and 7-12 mph faster through the Bus Stop. Do it a step at a time. Great looking car!

DPs are really fun and quick through the busstop.

 

I'm flat out through most the banking

Infield still slowing me down & just being careful w new car in bus stop

 

Try to attack the stop. ride the curbs hard. Then FT!
