Sold over the weekend by Silverstone Auctions in England. 86 328GTS 66,000 miles 61,000 pounds. That's about $95,000 US dollars. Not low miles, not a GTB and not an ABS car. Relevant?

    I think it is.

My question would be how much that same car would sell for in the US?

I cant help but think that Ebay taints our results here in the States. I think you mix that with how often we have collectively "eaten our own" in this very forum and we have affected our own values.

Think about how often you have seen, read, or possibly written "Thats nothing but a $20k beater car."

Glad to see the market starting to override that mentality. It is starting to reflect in sales like this.

Ebay exists in England. I'm not sure what you are implying?

The Silverstone Auctions auction car actually sold for GBP68,625 (USD107,000) if you take into account the auction fees!

Not sure what it sold for...but a salesman at Ferrari of New England told me over the weekend they just sold a 328 with 65 miles. It was locked in the service department, had convex wheels and looks like a red/tan GTS.

Not implying anything. The market is generally smaller in the UK so I dont think Ebay is as likely to have as many cars available so the effect probably isnt as dramatic as it seems to have been here in the US with cheaper 3X8s.

I am just happy I have mine and that I got it when I did.

that would be interesting to know. to the right collector it could possibly have a 3 handle...you never know. just because there are some that are willing to pay a premium for a non duplicable car does not signify a bubble.

besides, when do you envision the next low slung, pinninfarina wedge, analogue car coming out from Ferrari?

Maybe, but keep in mind this was a RHD car, and therefore more desirable in England. Really would like to know what a similar LHD car would sell for there.

I wonder the same thing. To me, the question is how much did a 86 328GTS with 66,000 miles sell for in the UK 5 years ago, and how much did the same car sell for in the US. Is there a larger gap in the value increase for cars in the UK over the US? Or, were 66k mile 328s selling for $50-60k 5 years ago and the price increase there is similar to here in terms of percentages - just with larger figures?

Regarding the Ferrari 328 with 65 miles that supposedly sold for $200,000, I have been keeping a price/mileage data scattergram of U.S. cars for guidance in my future 328 purchase. For amusement, I plugged in a car with 1 mile and the model showed $230,000 when using a logarithmic curve thru the data and $482,000 when using an exponential curve. Thus, $200,000 is somewhat of a "deal" for a time capsule.

Sports Car Market magazine disparaged the $250,000 sale of the 328GTS as non-sense in the December issue. The January issue is recognizing a market shift. 1979 308 GTB, 28,607 miles $105,669, “Expect to see it retailed for more soon”. 1978 GTB, 45,500 miles, $94,889, “GTBs and GTSs have picked up rather suddenly without anyone noticing, doubling in the last three years like most other Enzo-era Ferraris”. 1985 (6) 328 GTS, 10,318 miles, $144,697, “…so this is where the market is (this month).” I guess it was them.

I am going to start looking for a 86-88 328 in the next yr or so. I have been browsing online and I absolutely think these guys asking 80-130k for a 328????? Are smokin something. And it's not rubber. I mean WTF, really???

All I can say is more money than brains if you spend anymore then 70k on an absolutely mint low mileage 328. Just my two cents.

Nada values certainly don't show these values. If one guy lists his car at 100k. Many others figure they can get that type of money as well. It won't happen, sorry folks.

If you have this car and have it listed for insane money. Good luck. There were too many made to make this particular model appreciate to that 100k value mark. Yes you will have those few with more money then brains and will shell out more then it's worth. Hats off to the guy who gets the coin.

Eventually the owners of these cars will realize the true value of any used vehicle is only what people will actually pay for it.

In regards to the car itself. It still has to be one of the sexiest cars on the road today. Hands down, more heads turn when a Ferrari drives by then most any brand of car. Enzo and pininfarina knew what they were doing with this one!

You sound like the typical buyer.. If you end up buying one you will be back praising the car saying it's a great investment and will surge in value for many reasons.. Also bring your logic to the porsche 993 market..

NADA values!!!! Really?? Just mentioning NADA values as a point of price reference on these cars IMHO discounts any opinion you provide in your post. Knowledgeable people have their ears to the ground and are talking to well known brokers to get the skinny on private sales and also following public auction results.

Not sure if you are merely a troll, or if you think you are really here to school us?
The market may be a bit high, but then again its probably a bit high on most cars.

You want a 328 for $70K you can definitely get one of those today or even next year, if you want one with 70,000+ miles, or if its been in a serious accident, or has some flood damage. You think you can get a mint condition, low mileage 328 for $70K...sounds like you're the one who has been smoking something beside rubber.

NADA values...who who cares? These aren't Honda Accords. They suggest the high end for a 1988 Lamborghini Countach is $114,000...wow, just a few hundred thousand short of current values, or a few years old. Their top price for a Daytona Coupe, also $150-200K short of what I've seen recently. So why should we be surprised they are quoting values for 328s from a few years ago.

Gotta love the newbie buyers who come in here to "Help" owners learn what the true values are of their cars. Thank you for telling us that far too many of our cars were made to ever be worth more than $70K. Please remember to tell 930 Turbo owners far too many of those were built to ever be worth more than the $70K mentioned in NADA book. Maybe they will also offer to give their cars to you at a fraction of their value.

Values of these cars have gone up a lot in a pretty short time, that's true. But you seem to be fighting against Mr. Market. Good luck with that.

Your last sentence hits the mark. The 328 is one of the greatest "obtainable" Ferrari models in the company's history. What else are you going to buy for $90k? A 360? Maybe that would be a better fit.

I've owned a 328 for over a dozen years. Your pricing is at least 2 years out of date. Right now, 70K -might- buy my car, but I have 116K miles on it. If you really want a mint low mile 328 for 70K, you're going to have to beat the bushes or hold you cash and hope for a market bust.
