I have had a F355 lust for years but havent pulled the plug. Now I am serious and talked to a dealer who is helping with the search but I am also looking far and near. Anywhere in the US works for me for the right car. Live in the Dallas area. Any recommendations on where to look and best of all how to appraise the price. Red GTS manual is what I'd like.
    THANKS!!!!

Try blackhorsemotors in Naples Florida. They just sold a red 1996 that was mint for $84k.
That is currently about the high end price for this model the 355 was mint with only 8k miles.
I have a 98 GTS. I love the car. The GTS are rather rare by Ferrari standards with 2048 worldwide production for the 6 speed.

I just so happen to own a beautiful '99 6-speed GTS and live in the Dallas area...although the car is not for sale, I might entertain six-figure offers ;)

The one in CA has an offer on it. Not sure about the one in OH yet. I'm still doing lots of research and have been for years. Thanks for the great links guys.

The GTS at Switchers is a 95. I know about the technical differences but what about the bugs. I usually try to avoid first year models. Is this one of those cars where you would find less issues in later year models?

There are many pros and cons to each year. I really hope we don't have to get into that here. I've had 3 95s. For me, it's my preference. I hope that we don't have to rehash the benefits in this thread again. It's been beaten to death here.

They are all 355s, and they are all awesome.

Does that mean you'd consider the right car @ 6 figures?

Well that's a pretty broad question. Mainly that this is an awesome car to own but comes at a high price in terms of maintenance some of which is unusual. Engine out Cam belt changes about every 3 to 5 years for about 7 k is an example. Headers crack and valve guides have to be checked out also during the Ppi. I would probably get a compression test by an experienced tech.
I saw one a few years ago and would have test driven it if it weren't stacked behind 15 cars or so. It wasn't the color I wanted so we never drove it. I wish I had though now.
Is ther any particular thing you would like to know or are you just quiz me to see if I am worthy of such a car ; )

Too rich for my blood. Sounds like you have a very special one if you want 6 figures when most go for closer to half that. Do tell. Was it Enzo's personal ride and only has 500 miles? I really want to know! Also can you answer my question about meets or clubs?

I'm not the poster who made the mention of the car. I was just curious, since he said he'd want 6 figures and then you asked to meet up at a local meet to check the car out.

I own a 98 and a 95 (very recent purchase). My 95 is a very early car and I can tell you Ferrari made changes early on and my car does not have those. I can also tell you the fitment improved over production as my 98 shows this. It's production evolution and it's normal.

he obviously loves his car and yes I want to see it. No, I will not spend that kind of dough and my wife will have my ass if I were to. But 50 to ?? For the right car is about the going rate these days it seems. I haven't seen a 6 figure one so I didn't take it seriously when he offered. I am in no rush. Ideally the car would be in my back yard though so Sushilover stop being such a tease.

Actually they started in '94. It is common for European cars to be sold the first year in Euroland only.

Fair enough. I will say, I just sold a very nice 95 GTS for very high 70s. It sold in 3 days, sight unseen and without a PPI. I had 3 buyers waiting had the deal fallen through.

The good cars go quickly. The 50k cars go even more quickly. (I just bought a 95GTB at that price point, 1 hour after it was listed. There were 12 back up buyers, and I have already turned down 57k for the same car). If I were to sell the car, it would take a number that started with a 7. It's that good.

If you find the car you like, act quickly. Yes, there are potential costly repairs lurking, but we all know what they are and what it cost to properly rectify them. The good news is that they can all be fixed. It just depends on what it is worth to you.

Headers can cost between 2.5 - 8.5k. - guess what? 360 and 430 headers fail too.
Valve guides aren't a big deal, and can be replaced during a major for less than 3k
Clutches in these cars cost less than there successors at around 2k vs 4-5k on the 360.
Stickies cost the same to fix regardless of the model, and they all have issues from the 348 to the Cali T

The rest of the issues are all just common supercar maintenance.

Don't let the 355 scare you. If you find a car that checks all of your boxes, buy it.

If you're worried about 10k to buy the right car vs the cheapest car, don't buy a Ferrari.

(Goodstick, this isn't necessarily directed at you, but rather at the many potential buyers who are "looking for" GTBs and GTS cars)

    Good luck! Keep us posted!

Luke, your car took more than 3 days to sell, IIRC, it was 5 so stop feeding us BS :)
