I know that the spiders and GTSs are great cars but I always wanted a Berlinetta! Now for some reason even though all the official numbers show that they were the ones the made the most off, I can't find a proper F355 GTB 6 speed in Corso Red/Tan.

I recently saw one in popping up 2K miles away from me and talked to the owner:
    -> 1997, 32K miles

    Pros
-> Dealer swear the paint is original and without the slightest ding (he said concourse level, I'm not sure about that until I see it myself)
-> Dealer said that the car seems to be one of the best F355s he has seen and that the manual gear box shifts really nice
-> I talked to the previous very reputable Lamborghini dealership who they serviced the car and said that they didn't find any issues back then - Belts were done 2K miles and 1,5year ago, compression, leak down and clutch life was checked and seemed to be OK (back then)

    Cons
-> HVAC panel has some bubbling
-> Gauge Cowl has some shrinkage but the dash seems fine
-> Driver's side bolster seems worn (but w/o holes)
-> Only one Key is available
-> I have the impression (from photos) that the car might be sitting a tad lower at the rear

What is a fair price for this car?
Dealer advertised it at $57,5K and I was able to knock the price down a couple of grand but at the same time I can see Red/Tan spiders going cheaper and I don't want to feel that I'm getting a bad deal.

Are spiders more or less expensive in the used market?
What do you think it's a fair price?

Btw I've been looking for this car for more than 2 years, I know a common thing with these is the valve guides (earlier cars) and the headers (all cars) so I asked them to check if it has aftermarket headers (it does seem to have an exhaust).

Please give me any piece of advice you can I'm getting crazy over this car

Last question: I'm 6' tall, would I feet inside ok?

You will fit fine inside if you have normal proportions / 30 to 32" length jeans.

You have much reading to do on the 348/355 forum! Start at the most viewed threads and work your way down for the 12 year run. Should take you 2-3 weeks. Hugely rewarding and entertaining. The good news is that it's all here and we are also here to help.

Last week we had two threads on value-ing similar cars.

Berlinettas in nice shape will sell very quickly at $50k, pretty quickly at $50-65k. Most are in this range. Some cars based on maint / service records / miles and condition can and do go for more - up to 75k+.

You'll see 3-4 berlinettas hit the market each month in multiple sources. I don't think you'll ever see more than that. So when you see the right car - you have to move. There are probably 20 people on Fchat in your same situation looking for the same car...

So. Make an offer and put down a deposit contingent on successful PPI and work from there...

    Very rough estimates:
Budget up to $2k for missing keys / fobs on the 96+ cars.
Ac panel is a $90 stick on label after cleaning up the old surface. Stickies in the whole car will run you $2500+
Dash pod leather can't be too expensive...
Full dash - someone else chime in.
Suspension issues can get pricey depending on issue - someone else chime in.

Things can still change in a year and half since last service. But valve guide issues show themselves at earlier mileages - not at 32k. Still get the PPI.

Berlinetta's are not related to spider pricing. Think of them as their own animal.
Generally spiders will be priced lower than comparable GTS or Berlinettas. And it is now snowing every where... Spider prices will be their lowest until March / April.

2 years is a long time to deprive yourself. You said you are crazy about the car. PPI and go for it. Dave rocks just bought a red/tan GTB and is restoring.

Just get the price right and restore to your hearts content.

    Thank you Robb!
By the way do you think there is any chance a car with 32K miles to still have the stock headers on? I remember that they were notorious for cracking really early. Would replacement headers from Ferrari have the same issue?

I'm asking because the car that I'm buying is going on the lift to check if the headers are stock or not as we speak...so I want to know what I should do if the headers appear stock (but in good condition). The car does have an after market (Tubi or larini) exhaust.

Headers from Ferrari will fail with certainty. Drive it until it sounds funny, no need to replace if it isn't broken. When it breaks, you have 2-3 aftermarket options depending on your comfort level.

The problem with headers is the heat shield that hides an early failure from visual confirmation. A leak will definitely sound funny.

My RHS had failed, was repaired and then failed again. All within 20k miles. I'm going aftermarket.

It's possible to have stock headers at 32k; I replaced my headers with ceramic coated Fabspeed around 45k if I recall and there were no outward signs of failure...but once off, one side was about to have holes blown through. Bought my car at 36k with stock headers...

No paint job from the factory is ever Concourse level.

And isnt every 355 for sale by the seller the BEST EVER!

I see that way to much on cars that are for sale. They can't all be the best one.

Take those two comments with a grain of salt.

Stock headers would not sidetrack a purchase for me. You just have to anticipate replacing them at some major service along the way as preventative. Get the most miles out of them as you can. See what the inspection turns up.

Many here like the tubi headers which are pricey. Many others love the fabspeed. Another group like the updated OEM Ferrari headers.

I'm far from a mechanic but have two great one's to go to for my needs.

Silly questions but can headers be replaced without removing the engine?
Is the only way to tell by the sound? I'm curious because chances are I won't be able to hear it if there is a small crack.

...and then since is my first ferrari, I think I'm getting a bit anal but don't you guys feel that this door is a bit misaligned? Also the fuel door a bit hoping out more than it should and the rear challenge mesh seems to have some discoloration - is this common?

I do understand that labor cost heavy varies from city to city and shop to shop but what is the typical cost for replacing the headers?

Did Ferrari update the OEM headers?

The door seems off but not that uncommon. The gas door is the same as my 95B and I plan to adjust it. Grills seems OK

If you are in the low to mid 50's buy it. Subject to a PPI of course. But I'd probably not care as long as headers and guides were fine.

FWIW - I spent almost two weeks reading almost every thread that was available on this forum. After that, I felt competent to buy. Even though there will be big bills sometime in my future, I did buy, & I'm a happy owner.

Be sure this is THE car. You are in a wonderful area for toy cars within a 1-2 hour drive; don't rush yourself.

    Congrats to the OP!

As Steve in Australia rightfully reminded us all and now that the OP is getting one. There is no such thing as a GTB. Ferrari never labelled them as such. They are called Berlinettas. Maybe just "B" is a more correct designation for them.

    Welcome to the OP!

While not official, GTB is just a lazy why to say Berlinetta. I'm sure 99% understand that.

Congrats- seems as a few are picking up nice cars lately :)

    No Problem...

    F1, automatic, 6 speed, whatever...

So many on here speak as if they were Enzo's direct descendants and were there when these cars were made but...

They didn't make a GTB. The OP as a new owner might not be aware of this detail about his dream car.

    No need for accuracy :) :) :)
