    I have moved a number of cars over the past 20 years and one thing you will find is this industry is good at misleading to get the business. This goes for the small guys to the well know national brands. Someone above mentioned dealing direct and not through a broker. When I made a move eight years ago from PA to AZ I had 8 to move. I contacted DAS because they had equipment that could put all 8 in one trailer (the articulated type) and the day we were scheduled for pick up they backed out because I found they had brokered the load and the trucker changed his mind. I had to do a lot of calling to find a temporary warehouse to put the cars in till they could bring one of their units to do the haul. In the interim years I used one of the national carriers that lets say does a lot of advertising during national car events on TV for several single car moves. When we decided to move back east earlier this year I called them first. Got a reasonable cost (which they changed upward at pickup because they said they had made a mistake) and it went down hill from there. I won't go into detail but I was treated like dirt and the cars treated even worse. You would think that moving 9 cars across the country would get reasonable treatment but they just don't care. I sent an email to their VP ( the President conveniently doesn't list his address on their website) after the experience and he didn't even have the courtesy to send a reply. I mention all the above to hopefully make people aware of the "over promise, under deliver" auto transport business and not get your hopes to high.

    Yea, Passport advertises all over their website that they have GPS tracking which was total BS. My contact became totally silent after I placed the order. They told me they don't outsource, they own all of their own trucks and trailers and the drivers are employees. When I spoke to the driver (very nice guy), he was only doing work for them for 2 weeks, he had no idea when I was promised delivery, knew nothing about GPS tracking and he owns the truck (not the trailer) and he is a contract driver for them.

    I'd never use them again. I'm just glad the guy came to me directly since he did not even know how to open a 355 door. The seller loaded the car and I unloaded.

    Roadtrip where possible.

    Or go with a dedicated small operation. See my earlier post. These stories about disappointment far outnumber the success stories from the big carriers.

    Joseph - amazing that with so many cars you had to move - the bigger carriers could not get their **** in gear.

    Best.

    The less amount of cars available the better the price. Your basically getting gas money back home. From the east coast heading to the west coast is a very long trip, lots of cars available, therefore carriers will wait to get a higher paying load.

    I used Intercity Lines. I would definitely use them again. The trailer was enclosed, this is the only way to go for protection of the vehicle, especially if you care about it. The other ones that I had considered were Pass Port transport, Reliable Carriers, and Exotic Car Carriers out of Orlando,FL.

    I believe Reliable transports a lot of cars to the New York Auto Show.

    There was a thread about this recently in the 360/430 section that involved Exotic Car Carriers. There were some problems that had happened to the owners car and the carrier did not respond that quickly to address the issues. Eventually it was resolved, but the owner was not happy with them.

    {I know I am answering the contrapositive of the question you ask.}

    If the distance from where the car is to where the new garage fro the car is is less than 4000 miles, then fly out and drive it back.

    This puts the whole continental USoA in reach.

    I second Jody. He is absolutely the best. I have used a bunch of people over the years and had problems with just about everyone (ask me about when Reliable dropped my F40 off with a completely dead and toasted battery because the driver turned the hazards on when he was getting out of the car). Anyway, Jody has taken every one of my Ferraris when they've needed transport. In fact, today he came and picked up one to take it for service. I cannot recommend him enough.

    Awesome! I want a cargo plane.

    What have some of you have paid per mile to ship your cars? How did the service match the price? Also, has anyone shipped enclosed for special events or track days? Costs? It is hard for me to stay in the same place too long and I am thinking about using my 45' enclosed race trailer to transport for hire.
