MPG - How many are you Getting?

Same here. Have not measured it that closely, but with the accuracy of the Ferrari fuel gauge, thats about what I come up with.

 

Getting 10-12MPG average with my Euro QV but I have a Prius to make up for my damage to the environment on the weekends

 

Just found this old thread when searching for cruise control. Just did 900 @ 110kph and got 9l/100km with a '76 glass 308GTB

that's 31 miles per UK gal or 26.2 miles per US gal

But it's not standard. It used a bit more before.

 

My '84 Euro always gets 25+ mpg over an ideal 100 mile stretch of road (out and back) that runs along the Florida Gulf Coast from Tyndall AFB through Mexico Bch, Port St Joe and out to Indian Pass. I gas up at the same pump start and finish for accuracy. There are only two stop lights, little traffic and a good mix of speeds from 35 to 65. I pay attention to mileage on this consistent run as an overall indicator of condition and engine tune. While my speedometer is very accurate my odometer is off by a couple of miles out of 100 when compared to the GPS. Again I agree that the odometer is not a good indication of total mileage, condition is much better, since it is unreliable and very easy to disconnect. Recently I was watching mine as it changed from 58,999 miles and went to 58,000 miles! Ain't that convenient.

 

best I ever got was just over 26 mpg, fueled-up around 18 Gallons from dead empty and after 500 miles light starting to hint but not dead empty yet.

again the other day I got just over 25 mpg.

must add, open road cruising around 80 mph, not exceeding 4000rpm on a pull-away...

this is on my '89 Euro 328 GTS.

 

About the same as my car....although I did get 7.5l/100km on a long 80kph stretch....but that was a one off.

 

the lack of vaccum advance is what hurts mpg.

 

what's the optimal amount?

 

I get 13 MPG in my 1975 GT4... 8 on the road, and 5 in town.

15.6 at 70-75 over 300 miles. 12 if I run 78 on the same road

 

Not sure on a 308, but around 15*- 20* is pretty common. It would help with part throttle response, fouling plugs, running hot while city driving and add 4-5 MPG.

 

I know my old 355 had about 10 degrees light throttle advance (I'm not sure that it's vacuum activated anymore) but the guy who did my 308 only put in 4 degrees, saying that's all it was happy with. I'm curious about that.

 

It depends where the base timing is set and how aggressive the curve is. Also I was speaking crank degrees, cut in half for dist/ cam.

 

Most people focus on fuel ratio when thinking about MPG but ignition can be just as important.

 

I was talking crank too.

the timing is obviously set for max power at full throttle...it's fully mapped, and timing advances as throttle is reduced, but only by about 4 deg as I said.

 

I just saw this thread,as I told Aussie Fchat in the "new 308 owner" thread,
I got between 10.5 and 11.5 litres per 100 klm's.
That equates to about what you get in your replacement car to this one.
That was sitting on the speed pictured and at 20% more than that on the western NSW roads.
Possibly thanks to the ignition system you put in.

nothing "possibly" about it....the BSM and ignition system AND 50 idle jets AND Euro emulsion tubes AND spot on main jet size.

Again, you need to check that you're using the right ignition curve. There's one for 98 octane and one for 91.

 

Incidentally, did you notice how clean the gauges are and how bright they are at night? again, you're welcome

I had to put some 95 in a couple of times,the restwere 98,but who would know what the previous owner put in or where it was set when I picked it up.

It seemed to have plenty of grunt and the above MPG.

Hehe,when this type of question came up in 365/400 section(I have a 365 GT4 as well),that was my answer.
Now that I've a foot in both camps,I am hugely surprised at the 308 GT4(as explained by the next to previous owner,though,this is not a standard fuel/ignition setup).

Actually, it's not marked. Might pay to check it with a timing light and mark the box for future reference.

 

+2 or +3 or +4, I don't think that the two go together.
