One of the things that I love in the Berlinettas and I feel I'm missing out with the (otherwise gorgeous) spiders is the flying buttress design.
Obviously the GTS seems like a good medium between the two, so my question to people who they have driven both is:
    1) How do the GTS compares to the Berlinetta in torsional rigidity, is it as stiff?
    2) I was hoping that the GTS would have a better luck in a roll over scenario over the spider but by taking a close look it seems that the only thing supporting the rear roof section is the glass - without having any substantial roll bar structure. Would you agree?
    3) Does the targa top really squeaks and leaks water all the time?

I have a Berlinetta. Just bought a GTS for my brother.

Both great. Almost identical with normal driving.

Our GTS top rubber and seals are well lubricated but it can still squeak when going over some bumps and roadway undulations. Not as much as my 328 GTS though. No water leaks when washing. We haven't driven it in the rain.

You can always add a rear roll cage in the cabin and cover it in leather!

GTB for the best looking, cleanest design IMO.

    Here we go again :)

    I will answer number 3:

Mine on squeaks on a rough road. It had leaked a drop of water once when I was washing it which I do every second drive. No issues at all

The b pillar also supports the roof. To wit, tracks in the us will allow a gts on track but not a spider due to the complete lack of roll over protection.

if you want perfect lines get a GTB

if you want wind in your hair (assuming you have hair) get a GTS

    Simple as that

Errr.... The GTS has EXACTLY the same lines as the Berlinetta (note, not GTB)

If you want a little more wind in your hair and don't care about the lines get a Spider.

If you're going to insist on being pedantic, it should be berlinetta (note: lowercase).

You are right. And the convertible should also be referred to as a spider (note: lower case).

The lower case is only on the badge, upper case is proper for names :)

355B is even lazier, and yet more accurate. GTB is just wrong.

    Is there a 308 Berlinetta?
    Or an F12GTB?

    :)

Capital letters aside then, we've established that there is definitely no such thing as a 355GTB.

And Dave your quote appears to come from a magazine article, yet Ferrari themselves are consistent when it comes to capitals.

    Or lack of them...

I posted a page from the 355 brochure. Official Ferrari print. I'm bored and playing along in good fun but I really could care less ;)

Let's talk more about the cars and less about the names!

    1) Is the targa top noisier inside?
    2) Do you get open air feeling with the top down or not so much?

Out in the GTS today with the berlinetta. 75 degrees and sunny.

With the top on the GTS, both cars are the same inside with noise.

With the top off the GTS, there is an open air feeling - wind buffeting is minimal to none with the windows up. Wind in the cabin is not as severe as a full spider when the windows are down.

You can actually talk easily to each other in the 355 without the targa top and windows up. Noise is also not terrible with the windows down.

I think it is a more comfortable car with wind and noise than the 328 GTS...

    Hope this helps.

I'd drive a GTS or berlinetta interchangeable any day of the week. :)
    Oh, I plan to...

I agree Robb execpt at high speeds with top off I find the wind noise to be very apparent but that's part of the experience :)
