I experience it is getting very difficult to get my F355 into reverse. cold or warm oil level OK clutch releasing properly when standing still, slightly moving forward or rolling backward engine on or off shift lever is aligned properly any suggestions?
I am assuming you have a stick shift? If so.. I know you said that you said that the shaft is aligned properly. However the first thing i would do personaly is adjust the shaft a few millimetres either clock wise or anti clockwise ( i cant recall of the top of my head) looking at it from the rear. Loosen the lock nearest the gear selector stub, then turn the shaft a very small amount, then lock it of. It literally takes a few milimeters to much in any direction to knock it out of tilt. If to much in one direction, this will make it hard to select reverse, if to much in the other direction this will make first gear hard to select. You have to fine tune to get the happy medium. Understanding that the way a gear is selected with a series of slight twists of the selector shaft, allows you to understand how easy it can be for the rod to slightly move over time if the lock nut is not tight enough.
that was the first thing my father said as well, but the other gears are so well aligned with no play at all.
Mate, the other gears are not really efected. The key gears are the reverse or the first gear. These are at the ends of the adjustment rotations. Now if you said you were having problems with say 2nd,3rd,4th and 5th gear, then the rotation adjustment of the shaft would not work. That would be problems within the gearbox. NOTE, if you do adjust the shaft, be sure to place the car in gear first ( any gear). This is so you dont loose which gear your in. Trust me, if you do loose your place theres alot of messing about especialy if you are new to understanding how the gear box stub rotates to select a gear. I hope this makes sense and good luck.
