F1 Driver Nicknames (so we know what the heck we're taking about)

Just a thought: I get pretty exasperated with all the varied nicknames for drivers and even initials for nicknames that only seem to exist in the microcosm of our F1 section and nowhere else. I can't keep up with them all, so haven't a clue what people are taking about when they're used, and if they're excluding me (someone who browses the F1 forum a fair amount) from the conversation then it's likely excluding others too.

Maybe we should make a FAQ sticky with all the nicknames and acronyms.

Romain Grosjean = Lettuce

That one took me a while to figure out.

And didn't ya'll come up with a good one for Ricciardo? Someone has some 'splaining to do on some of these.

 

Why is Rosberg called Britney?

 

Early in his F1 career he had longer (blond) hair and did lots of fashion shoots and was fastidious about his appearance - so the resemblance to Ms. Spears was noted and he acquired the nickname Britney. It was Webber that baptized him with the Britney name after the 2006 Brazilian GP I believe, when they were team mates at Williams and Rosberg crashed into the back of Webber. Since Rosberg had less car damage, Webber was asked to let Rosberg pit in first. Rosberg lost control of the car and crashed, when Webber got the radio message. He replied by saying Britney is in the wall, or something to that effect.

Also, Nico Rosberg has been called Avicii by some in certain forums that I've seen in the past for their similar appearance.

Personally I call him cheatberg. But his display yesterday was gracious so may drop it. He can be graciousberg

Little Ricky (another Lucille Ball reference)

 

We should send a list of potential nicknames to Ricciardo and ask him to pick one for us to use. He seems like the kind of guy who would actually be up for that.

I like the I Love Lucy references, but desi already means something else... and Little Ricky doesn't have the same ring... how about, Babaloo?

 

I think that Bottas should be Walter or just Walt.

 

Autocorrect thinks it should be potash.
