The nose is completely wrong, even the holes. Pathetic.

This is how it should look like:

See Post Nos. 195 & 197 on Page 10 of this very thread. The nose config is now the same as when the car was delivered new.

By the time 3445 GT received its Swedish livery, the nose had already been altered, etc.

    My read of this thread, Peter, leads me to believe the following (I'm happy to be corrected by anyone who has more information);

The present nose repair at Classiche was done to the photographic standard of 3445 as it originally left the factory.
It's my understanding that Classiche tends to want to take cars back to 'first configuration original'.

On top of that nose and on that body, 3445 wears the livery and race number of its 1964 Targa Florio participation, as per the present owner's preference.

Hence, my understanding is, the 1962 nose under (an) 1964 race paint job.

    Best Regards,
    Dave

Here is a photo I took around 2003. I think it has been discussed in another thread that the nose and other details have been put in the period configuration that the owner wanted during the repairs.. On this page alone there are 3 different nose configurations.. In the vintage F-car world where stories abound of L/R doors being off by an inch, wrong becomes a harsh word with restorations..

...and this nose had already been changed when the Swedish colors came on the car!! So this details have nothing to do with themselfs.

    Ciao!

Yes, but the result is ambivalent and not period correct. It never looked like that (in that combination).

Of course the owner can do as he pleases and Classiche is known to remove period correct details, for the sake of emulating the presence when it rolled out of the factory gates. The results of which can be seen here.

Even so the whole shape of the nose looks off, too short. But that could be the angle of the picture.

The car is well known for not being one of the "good" GTOs. This resto doesn`t do it a favour......

Using the word "pathetic" to describe a tremendous amount of craft and skill in the restoration of a re-re-re-body -- and by that I mean simply returning the metal to its ever-so-slightly more original shape -- is a bunch of BS. If you're going to so vehemently protest this repair over the simple application of a particular color, then you're just being one of those snooty women who loudly chastises another for wearing a vintage dress with jewelry you don't approve of. That, IMHO, is more accurately fitting of the word "pathetic."

IMHO, you should get over it and celebrate the fact that:

    a) the owners made a full recovery, and
    b) this car is back on the road and beautiful.

I'm never too old to learn, so if 3445 indeed looked like this when it came out of the factory, I stand corrected on the shape. but when I see a costly restoration like this, at least get it period correct. That's my first reaction. Maybe 'sad' was a more apropriate word to use. Or 'disappointing'.

I don't need to get over anything, I'm doing just fine, thanks. I am glad about point a) and as for point b), this livery is one of my favorites. Judging from the video posted, the shape looks good too, so the official picture has probably some distortion that makes the nose look 'off'.

    Bingo.

Ferrari have returned it to how it left the factory which is all that Classiche seem to accept and we all love that livery. All good in my book. Would have been a terrible shame if it was now red.

Plus I never liked the longer middle air duct.
