http://www.ferrariservice.com/ You might try these guys, no relation, but they used to advertise 355 kevlar clutch kits.
Hello Dave Wonder how thick the kevlar layer should be? I have a F355 with manual transmissions. Thanks
Has anyone installed the kevlar clutch in an F1 transmission, and if so how does it work? Is it as smooth as the OEM clutch?
Thanks for posting this Dave. I replaced my clutch with Kevlar 2 years ago & have 6k kilometers on it now. I won't be taking mine apart to ckeck it though. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Kevlar is a great option. I'd like to suggest one from my experience. It's called "Green Gripper" and is an aramid used quite extensively in clutches. I had a custom unit installed in a Lingenfelter dual disc prototype unit back in 2003. It seemed to offer better performance/durability over other Kevlar pucks. You should at least give "Green Gripper" clutch material a look.
Yes I know they work good on oedal cars vivid racing has used them a quite a bit. The problem they explained to me was the break in might be more difficult on a f1 and if you don't break them in properly they don't work well. According to them anyway. Thus my question on the f1 s and how they were working.
In this thread alone, some mentioned the kevlar disc gave an "on-off" feel while others felt theirs was smooth. I am going to assume this depends on the shop building them. I prefer smooth and i would like some experienced feedback from those who have gotten theirs done from a particular shop.
If your serious about this ken talk to the guys over at vivid racing. They use these a lot from what they told me. They also said to me if broke in properly the clutch will be smooth but more aggressive.
I deal with Vivid Racing often, but I was unaware they did clutch disc rebuilding. My clutch is wearing down, so i have to figure something soon. If I wasnt serious, i wouldnt be reviving a 4 year old thread .
Ok I also think the Kevlar clutch allows more clutch rebuilds to every one steel replacements. I don't. Think they necessarily rebuild them they have the parts
Are the break in periods different with the kevlar? I put a kevlar clutch in my M3 last year and it required 500 miles of easy driving to break-in properly. It took me a year to break it in. With the amount of miles these cars are not driven, how would the break-in work?
PM sent to you jh355, need to have a single disk 348 flywheel ground. You seem to understand the difficulties in getting it right! Godspeed! Dave
Your right the break in can be much longer unless you increase the clamping pressures, add 20% or so up to 1200 psi, that cuts it down to normal.
I am running a Kevlar clutch in my 348. My mechanic in CA installed it at the last engine out service. Kai
I had a clutch manufacturer build mine. They ordered the pucks in the Green Gripper material and installed them on my dual disk set-up, which was a prototype that came with iron pucks. I think most manufacturers would build it for you if the pucks or disc units are available in Green Gripper Kevlar material. My clutch builder spoke with Scan Pac, the Green Gripper manufacturer and set it all up.
