I've never heard of Ku. i just checked V1's website and it says the new ones can do Ku but it is not used in the U.S. so you have to turn it on.
Redline for me Too.... it has always warned me far ahead......Even had a Laser Blip on it, but never saw the COP....But laser is hard to beat, unless you happen to get a stray shot from a car in front to warn you..
My point exactly. Radar detectors are irrelevant . If the device cannot shift a laser frequency, it is a mere dashboard novelty.
Almost irrelevant, it depends upon where you do most of your driving and what speed detection devices are used by law enforcement in your area. I got nailed yesterday with laser in Virginia, there is nothing to be done against laser.
I have to respectfully disagree with you. In my experience, and certainly on the open freeways, it's laser, laser, and more laser. For those instances, I rely on my laser shifter. But, at least where I live and travel, I find that LEO's often times use Ka band radar to read speeds. This goes for my home and surrounding cities in Ohio. It is also true for the Chicago suburbs (Naperville/Bolingbrook/Plainfield) where I was visiting this Thanksgiving weekend. So, IMO, radar detectors aren't irrelevant, especially in the case (as has been prevalent in my area) where the LEO parks, turns on the gun, and sits and waits. No pops, no on/off, nothing fancy. My setups work well for me here. Also, on the V1, mine was falsing excessively until I reprogrammed it. Now, if it makes a noise, it means someone is watching me.
Every one needs a laser jammer, they do work. the V1 only gives false reading if you are too lazy to program it.

I turn the K band off because most new cars lane awareness systems are on K band. I leave Ka on and depending on where I am I toggle X. I use a blinder system for laser. I can tell you its saved me from at least 3 tickets over the past 4-5 years. The best defense is to drive smart and always be aware of your surroundings like anything else in life. But there are times you will be distracted or just miss it and having a good detector/ laser system will help. IMHO, the V1 was the best detector of the 1990s and early to mid 2000s. But Escort has really raised the bar and I think they are now on the cutting edge. It doesn't mean I pull the V1 out of cars I have it in, but going forward I am going to go with the Escort. JMHO...
I agree with just about EVERYTHING that caeruleus11 said above, except I also have X band turned off. I second the fact that Escort detectors have come a long way, and I use escorts in all of my cars except for my M5, where the V1 is hard wired.
I haven't used a detector in a year or so. I've been using the phone app Waze and after a few longer road trips to PA and NY and lots of use around New England I find it to be nearly perfect on police alerts.
This has been covered so many times...nothing new. 1. max distance and "information" as to where the radar is, best choice for open road = V1 2. Far better for "around town" radar, GPS is big in that regard = Passport [I have both and keep them both in the car.] Laser diffuser/shifter = use at your own risk (illegal in some states). Lastly, use waze.
6 saves with my Passport 9 saves with my Waze Using both together has been a good way to cover all ground. Still thinking about a laser shifter but I don't see much laser use in my part of Florida?
I have a couple Passports: 9500 ix Max 2 All of my Escort detectors are enabled with the Escort Live subscription service for peer-to-peer reporting and alerts.
9500 ix w/ Live. 9500 works well. Live is not great - too many false alarms. Have a built-in K40 in my RS - way too many false alerts (anybody know how to reprogram?)
I use V-1s (reprogrammed with K and X bands off, and the Ka band sensitivity increased), with Waze. I have very few false alarms (more from Waze than the reprogrammed V-1), and always have warning for real radar. The V-1 is simply not usable if you don't reprogram it. There is not much laser used in this area. I have not used a current generation Passport, so I can't offer a comparison.
Id go with the 9500 Ci for custom install or the Max2. Do you guys who use Waze find you are too often interacting with your phone? Thats a concern of mine when driving. I tried Waze once but I found the way it would cause a bluetooth alert to constantly mute my music to be annoying. I assume this can be turned off but I actually just never went back to it. I like to put my phone down and not be bothered by it when I'm driving.
Waze needs a good phone dash-mount so you can glance at your phone... but I've got everything turned off and just look at the GPS map as I'm driving through an area to see where the police are sitting with radars turned off (making my 9500 ix Passport useless). I like the way Waze clears older reports so their information is current to with-in 20 or 30 minutes
