That's a great read. Bit daunting if you are selling. I will take the easy option and keep mine.

The column I want to read is how the IRS let me write off the car for the year. He does that without an audit and I'm all ears....

I for one am so glad that DB got rid of that car. I think his articles are intended to appeal to 8th graders or those with equilevant IQs

So childish and boring. He was just banking on the Ferrari name.

I always likened it to showing up with a hottie and calling her fat in front of your friends to look cool. That and driving it through the mud and gravel for shock value...

Oh come on, cut the guy a break. He's trying to write entertaining articles (and shoot entertaining videos) that draw eyeballs. I personally think he's doing a good job.

There's entertaining and there's telling a joke. He's a nice guy... but I've never felt telling a joke or telling a story at the expense of someone.. in this case using the cache of Ferrari.. is really that funny. I've enjoyed some of his work.. but every time he puts something together about his 360 it (was) cliche and at the expense of the car and brand. Drag strip the car? Let 500 people drive it to prove it's just like any other car? Really? Why not just drop it off a cliff and see if it bounces the same height as a beetle. It feeds the jealousy of the adolescent writers of Jalopnik.. and that is my only concern with his writing. It's easy to play off that jealousy at the expense of the car. e.g. does a door panel of an Aston bounce a baseball the same way a Malibu does? Why not have a valet olympics? first one to not ding a car gets 10 points....

And Doug, I know you're reading this.. so.. above was my concern with the Ferrari pieces. What I really respect about Chris Harris is he really describes the cars that he's driving. He really gets into the car, how it handles and drives. That's what I RESPECT. What I read for entertainment is different material entirely. If you want to grow into a respected journalist, that is want I want to read (personally). If you're in chucktown the beer is still on me and can verbally spank me on the above points... oh, and BTW you don't "own" a car until the title is in your hand. The bank technically "owns" it until that point.

I liked his car and he has that...that East Coast thing going on which I always find amusing.

Last model year, manual, shields, red, well used...It will be interesting to see the sales price in his article.

I heard it smells like sandals.

    ; )

Anyone that daily drives a 360 deserves some respect.

But Doug, I watched your late night video (ok, I skipped around) ... but rev the thing! It likes it...

It's all good. It's the internet and he's look for his niche. Some may not find his perspective very funny, but that's okay. I have yet to see anyone here make any serious video of the variety he's made - and I doubt there ever will be.

If you haven't seen the videos, you can find them here:

I disagree with you. Doug isn’t a driver who can really comment and describe the car he is driving. Chris Harris isn’t very original to begin with, a lot of what he says are reworded phrases from other automotive shows, however, he still provides a pretty comprehensive review about the car. I digress, the point is Doug will never be a respected journalist, by virtue of having no real driving credentials.

Doug on the other hand is a different “presenter” all together. I find that his shows have some light entertainment value. I like how he jokes about some of the ridiculousness of the Ferrari name. I also don’t think it triggers jealousy. The 360 is a great car, but it’s by no means that exclusive anymore, and he has fun with it.

Too have fun with it… isn’t that the point of having a exotic car? I didn’t get my F430 to go around a track, I didn’t buy it based on performance figures. To me it’s about the visceral feeling I get when I drive. If he wants to share some of his “staged” experiences, then by all means . No one is forcing you to watch it.

Doug, if you’re reading do your viewers a favor and wear proper shoes and pants.

Are you sure he sold it? Maybe "they" took it away from him when "they" repossessed his man-card.
IMO, this sandal-wearing, half-baked poser of a car guy should more likely be driving one of those Scion cube-shaped-lookin'-POS's and leave the F-cars for real men.

Agree with you 100% but to even compare Chris Harris to Doug is doing injustice to Chris. It's the equivalent of a road test of a 360 vs a 20yr old modded Honda Civic.

Really? Well I guess when I took mine out on sunday for a half hour all the people (3) that took pictures must have been taking pictures of me right? ;) Not exclusive.. yeah its a regular M3. ;)

I think its a yearly thing and he's going to open it up to his readers. reason for sale was strictly approaching the year mark and time to trade out. Based on his last piece about the Porsche... I think I know what he'd like to have elected by the Jalopnik faithful.

Doug pulls back the curtain on the Ferrari ownership experience and that's not bad. He DOES answer some real questions that many people have and demonstrates some of the practical realities of owning a Ferrari. Look at all the people on Fchat asking these same practical questions...how much does it cost, where do you park, can you drive it daily, etc, etc. In fact, most people considering their first Ferrari would benefit from watching his videos.

And you just have to look on this board to see how many owners/buyers are crazy about minor carfax issues, minor accidents, maintenance history, mileage, etc. He may not be presenting a balanced perspective on these issues, but he's also not just making it up.

Personally, when I first came across Doug's videos, I assumed he was a sincere enthusiast of modest means who decided to fulfill a dream by purchasing a Ferrari and sharing his experience. In that context, I found his videos somewhat entertaining and refreshing compared to the typical media treatment of Ferraris. As it became apparent to me that he bought the car *entirely* to make these videos and promote himself, the entertainment value also declined.

For example, who could have imagined that you can't fit more than two people in a two seater? Or that inner-city, pot-holed streets may not be the most enjoyable environment for an exotic car. Do those add any value, either as information or entertainment? "I hold in my hands an actual $500 bill for a patched tire and new battery? Outrageous!!" Actually, you'd pay about the same at an Audi or Lexus dealership. Maybe point that out too instead of the melodrama.

I thought the Boxster S v. 360 was one of his better ones. An interesting and creative comparison that presents two very different ownership experiences in a practical way that Motor Trend would never do. I've owned both cars and thought his points were right on. Same with many of his other posts. I'm looking forward to his next post summarizing the ownership experience of the 360.

Wow! I can't believe how many have slammed this guy. He writes for a specific target audience and he probably hits them. It's light entertainment. End of story. The videos play to different myths about the marque and he goes about illustrating in a somewhat satirical way. Its all good fun.

If there is one thing that I have learned, is don't take yourself too seriously, you just look the fool and I'm hearing allot of people taking their cars way too seriously.
