Ah you've finally seen the light.

Just as an aside; are ferrari as fiscally wasteful in all areas as they are in driver hiring? Pay kimi a huge amount to go away and then pay him to come back again (didn't they then have to buy out massa?). And wasn't kimis contract a one year deal with an option for 2015 and now after he performed one of the worst seasons in ferrari history (actually probably the worst relative to his team mate) they still keep him on for mega bucks? Then they get rid of alonso and Santander will probably be going with him after end of next year - since Santander more than paid for his salary the effect of hiring vettel Makes it an even more pricey endeavour than I initially thought (unless he brings sponsors which I don't think he does?) probably more than 50-60m a season is the net effect of having vettel over alonso (and incidentally alonso is far better than vettel)

Sacking mattiachi probably cost them a fair bit too? Did he get any sort of severance package? And who is this new clown they've hired with no f1 experience (maybe unfair to prejudge him) but doesn't look like ferrari is going anywhere anytime soon.

Ferrari need someone to manage tbeir money. They are literally throwing it down the toilet. If they do so with their drivers who knows what they do in other areas.

What the hell does any of that have to do with the original question? Can you keep your nonsense out of every damn thread please.

Law school...this would at least explain your intention...
You ask a very abstract question that can not be answered other than by pure assumptions and subjectivity. You are asking for facts although there are none but at the end it is just like at court: no matter how weak the arguments are, all that counts is how persuasive they appear to the jury...:D

Apropos: the team leader is not necessarily the best driver as the best driver is not necessarily the best team leader (Alonso comes to mind).

Why didn't you just ask that then? You could even have posted a poll and let people vote on it along with giving their reasons.....

Obtuse, 'devious' and a little slimy.... No wonder they're generally held in about as high a regard as used car salesmen..... ;)

    +1

Which also opens the endless debate as to 'best' versus 'fastest' versus 'best team leader' etc. But, I guess we've got little else to do for a few months :)().

    Cheers,
    Ian
PS - Peter, having 'corrected' your English previously, should note here that 'apropos' is the perfect term - any Latin in your background? Is it even a Latin derivative? Sounds like it should be..... ;)

Apropos is French (a propos) but it is exactly the same used in German :D I have absolutely no Latin Background, just had English and French in school and I was not good compared to science...

    Me too! ;)

They tried to ram French down my throat, but I used to get thrown out pretty regularly......

I *guess*, but certainly don't claim to know, (where's the Viz? ;)) it's one that's come from Latin as it's also an English term. IIRC (& it's certainly possible I dont!) English, French and German (among others) all pretty much derive from Latin. (?)

    Cheers,
    Ian

    I have always been realistic.

Hamilton is more successful as a driver, but I prefer Rosberg as a person.

I would look at everything they have done so far and do the complete opposite....

Guys, my bad. The thread got off track because I stated my question poorly.

here's what I wrote: Pick your team leader from amongst today's drivers and support your choice with facts, not opinions.

here's what I should have writ: assuming you would want the best driver, which of today's drivers would you sign first?

the thread would have given your answers instead of going so off track as to getting off on lawyers and accusing me of being slimy.

Interestingly, although I have not been a Hamilton fan while acknowledging his great skill as a driver I've thought he needed a great deal of attitude adjustment. My pick would still be Alonso but Lewis' conduct through what has been a highly pressured season with some inexplicable set-backs by mechanical failures, has been quite remarkable. I think he has grown up and become a truly mature world-class racer.

So after Fernando my answer to my question: I'm with William: Recruit Hamilton at all cost!

Ideally it would be Lewis and Fernando but that isn't going to happen for many reasons. But really if I were the team principal I'd be thinking about getting the car right not the drivers. The engineers is the first thing I'd look at. Kimi and Seb can both win with a decent car. If the car isn't up to it even the best driver in the world can't win with it as the last five years proved.

and I've just clipped this from Motorsport:

Hamilton allayed any fears that he might be considering leaving the team, perhaps to join Vettel in fabled red.

"I've never had this dream of Ferrari," the Briton insisted. "The red car looks great but I can always buy a Mercedes in red," he laughed.

The article reports that Lewis will be in discussions with Mercedes about extending his contract beyond 2015.

Thanks, interesting him saying he is not driven to drive a red beast..

Which of course from my standpoint is not actually a surprise, but more of a dream for me..;)

Lets hope it stays this way.

Odd thing to do btw, stating publicly he never dreamt of driving for team X.

I don't understand the thread. A driver should not lead the F1 team. The team principal should.

    Low blows ay? ;)

They both had terrible seasons, no denying that. If Kimi has used (most) of this year as a test session for next years chassis (like he said) I expect a much better season for him (and Vettel) next year.

They both need a planted rear end. Lets hope they can provide one.

I love the F1 section this year. No matter what, it always ends up about Hamilton.

Geeze, you can ask any question you want, but on the internet you will get 66% of the answers that address other things. That's what makes it a discussion. Otherwise, just post a poll with only the limited answers you seek.

Just my observation anyway, as in, ask people "chocolate or vanillla?" and on the internet you get 66% of the answers as "strawberry", "mocha", "Neopolitan", etc.
