Very Cool
Here the plugs that were in it, they were only snugged in so maybe they were recently put in by a weak wristed fella. They look like they had decent burn on them Image Unavailable, Please Login
FYI. Those wheels cannot be powder coated. They have high mg content and must be sealed properly or they will bubble within days from off gassing. Lots of threads on it.
Yeah I'm just discovering that, powdercoater called all bent out of shape saying 3 are perfect one keeps bubbling. Guess I'll let them do their thing, scuff and shoot black. I always hated taking care of vintage magnesium wheels, polished or otherwise. They had lots of curb damage to them so I'm not to concerned if it's a loss. There's a set on Craigslist in my state for 900, maybe I should have a look see
My car lift motor decided to fail on me in the down position with no wheels on it, spent all day messing with the pump and motor, full tear down with no luck, put a jack under it, lifted it a bit and it magically worked again. Full day lost Image Unavailable, Please Login
Just so I won't feel like a complete Sunday loser I decide to drain the antifreeze in prep of belts and clutch, I saw a few drips coming from heater port on the motor so I would have had to drain anyway. So I just figured out ferraris infinite wisdom to not put a draincock anywhere handy. Never mind all cars from the begining of time put them in. I'm beginning to think you were suppose to drive these cars until new model came out then you had them crushed. Somewhere I'm sure there's a page in the owners manual (if I had one) "no serviceable parts" Image Unavailable, Please Login
Don't get me wrong, I will be *****ing and moaning as I go along, but I'm happy as can be from all this anguish. I'm in my element
What do you think of the state of those hoses? From the picture, they look to be original... and I didn't trust my original 30 year old hoses to hold all the coolant inside where I wanted it. So, when you order the full set of SRI replacement coolant hoses from Ricambi: Ferrari Parts : SR308H 308QV Silicone Hose Kit : Ricambi America note that SRI also sells a draincock that you can insert in the heater hose just before it joins up with the radiator hose, right near the bottom connector pipe in the photo you posted. You can see the draincock in the Coolant Hose Kits photo on the SRI page at Ricambi, anthough they don't list the draincock anywhere - you have to phone and ask for it... That SUCKS! Nooooo. I feel your pain man....nothing worse than being geared up to work on the car and spending the whole day on supporting equipment! I had the exact same thing happen to me with a floor jack - no idea why and it never did it again. This was like 10 years ago. Maybe air pocket? Anyway, glad you pushed through it. Good for you.
The hoses have all been replaced, the reason I know this is none of them match, hose clamps kinda are the same but not really, all have hasty jagged cut ends. I should replace them for piece of mind... I feel the "chronicle of barrons shipwrights tale" coming
Very cool toy and the solo seat is a nice touch! Oh, how I can relate to this comment!! Wow, I really surprised this kit is offered for $688 ? It really isn't that much hose total, and silicone hose can be sourced a number of places in bulk and cut your own. Ok, so its the cute little printing that ups the price.. right? And for the purist.. OMG, it says made in USA! I'm just say'n
Nothing much today, just prepped everything for belts, put it on top dead center, observed the ferrari filthyness and nasty looking bearings, belts seemed in order Image Unavailable, Please Login
Got the wheels back last night, all 4 look perfect, can no longer tell all the extreme curb rash I had to sand out. Now hopefully they don't spontaneously combust because I powdered them Image Unavailable, Please Login
That looks pretty good actually. Mine are similar and are painted. Varies wheel to wheel. So were they stripped to bare metal then powdered straight up? I can't believe they will last more than a month if so. I had 3 wheels where the barrels did not get enough chromate sealant and they bubbled in 7 days and lifted the paint off the wheel from the off-gassing. Good luck! I hope it works because it would be way cheaper and easier than what I did with them!
Glossy black, he said one wheel gave him fits but he did blast them, said he does magnesium all the time, tricky but doable. If it bubbles I'll sand and spray with paint, I can't imagine it all falling off, btw the old paint that was on there was showing corrosion in areas inside the rim
Did he mention what makes it tricky and what he does to adjust? Really curious. Here's hoping they hold up!
It's a very good sign that he knows what he's doing - the lug seats were masked and aren't coated. Double-check on the inside of the wheel that the wheel face that mounts against the hub isn't coated either.
Am I hallucinating that the rear bank timing belt has slack in it between the cam drive and tensioner? Had you already loosened it in that pic? Check the slight arc in the belt right as it comes off the drive sprocket and heads towards the tensioner... I like your wheels... Ciao! Hannibal
