I realize rear wings aren't for everyone. But if you are a fan, how wide of a wing would you put on your car? I'm looking at different widths for my 95 348 spider. I think the overall width of the car is 70 inches. At first I was thinking I should get one about the same width of the car. I found one that is 69 inches wide. That's a big wing! But now I'm thinking maybe more around 60 inches. By the way, I'm going to do it without any permanent alterations to the car. I plan to build a support that mounts off the subframe near the gear box and also through the grille.

Any input? Please don't hate me for wanting to do this.

Is it strictly for styling or performance? I think if your going to put a wing you gotta go all out and get the rest of the car to match. IMO, having a wing says "I need the downforce for tracking" If the stance, wheels and other accessories don't match...to me, that's called RICE.

360 Starfish wheels, black racing seats with red accents, fender shields and a wing. That's the package.

Maybe I can rephrase my question this way. For F cars that look good with wings, what width looks good?

either same width as car or slightly smaller
overhangs don't look right to me

Only race cars, purpose built track cars and those that came with factory wings look good, all others look terrible.

Having a wing is a bit like dragging a parachute behind you. You'll lose top speed and mileage.

I see you're a high school teacher. It would probably be a hit with some of the tuner kids but wouldn't help you keep up to their Hondas and Subarus. ;)

As the owner of a street driven Challenge car, I could naturally be considered "wing friendly". However, the wing you posted - on a spider no less - would look beyond dumb to me. At least I can say the wing on my car was from the factory. If it didn't have a wing I don't think I would add one, especially on a spider which have no track/race heritage.

The ONLY wing/spoiler that looks good and improves performance on the 348 is the one designed by Micheloto for the 348 GTC/Lm.

Would love to have that car in my garage someday....

Put one on the front hood too !!!!!!!
Funny part is , the rear decklid is so dainty and delicate any downforce would probably just crush down the surface before actually providing any noticable effect
Put on the biggest one you could find , let us know how it goes . Lol

On the other hand, once the deck lid deflects the force will still be transferred to the chassis. On the other, other hand, I'm not going to mount it to the deck lid. As previously stated, I'm planning to mount it to the subframe with some struts and such.

The spider vs. coupe comment did get my attention though. I'll have to look into that.

The red plastic brembo brake caliper covers available on ebay should complete the look

I believe they sell those in a package deal now which includes the Turbo Sound Effect whistle that attaches to the tailpipe and the thing you put in your intake that creates a whirl wind.
