    So I'm driving my 2003 360 modena in 6th gear on the highway and for the second time in 3 weeks the gear indicator light started flashing and it wouldn't accelerate. When I pulled over it went into first and i drove off without incident.
    It seems to shift fine otherwise (there is 50% left on the clutch) and has only happened twice (both on the highway when I was in 6th gear).
    I'm sure it could be a myriad things...thoughts?

    If a previous shop/owner has not reset parameters correctly, a clutch reading can be meaningless. Get it on a proper diagnostic and look over ALL relevant information to the F1 system.

    I've replaced clutches and found them very worn as well as almost new due to improper set up. So, the best thing is take to a shop and not the internet, IMO.

    The Ferrari dealer in Norwood did a clutch reading while doing the recent major. Does it sound like clutch slippage due to wear or perhaps an electrical issue?

    Obviously there was an electrical issue that the computer picked up that caused the indicator light to flash. The computer wouldn't present this if an electrical sensor didn't trip it. The question is.. is there a mechanical issue with the clutch or the F1 system that caused a sensor to send the signal to the computer that triggered the light.

    The only way to find out what the computer thinks is an issue, and thus the light is to get it connected to an SD2 as Rifledriver writes. When you have the car up, you can take the access panel below the clutch and visually inspect the clutch thickness... perhaps measure it with a micrometer (haven't tried measurement myself yet so not 100% sure).

    Thanks for the input guys. I will probably check with my local guy first then if that fails then it's off to the dealer (ugh..far away and expensive!)

    Sorry man.. Ferrari made it so you pretty much need a scanner to work on the system. :(

    And unfortunately the service manager at the dealer said that the only way they can really diagnose the problem is wait until it happens more frequently or, worse, the car doesn't shift anymore! No worries...at worse I will be stranded on the side of the highway!!

    He said that since it happened only 2 times in 800 miles, there is not enough of a sample to accurately diagnose the problem. Could be clutch, pump, or electrical.

    make sure you have AAA Platinum service. This will get you flatbed service to the dealer

    Keep in mind that Ferrari has free towing to the nearest daeler.

    I'm surprised. There should be a fault code or codes logged in the system.

    Is there an independent nearby with a Leonardo? Perhaps in Hartford?

    My guess: defective gear sensor or defective connector. The shop should clean the connectors.
    A problem with the clutch or pump? I doubt it. You only had the problem two times.
    My bet: electrical gremlin.

    Actually called a gear detector. Read it on the Internet. They come in portable versions as well. 😜

    Are there many independent guys doing the clutches on these 360s and how much are the actuators?

    There are many independents that are doing clutches on these cars. It just takes a Leonardo or SD2 to get the PIS settings rights.

    Actuators per others here can be rebuilt. New from Ferrari it's $$$. A couple grand is what I recall but that might be out of date.
