Rock auto had the best price last time I bought an accumulator a few years ago:

    > BOSCH 0438170004 Fuel Accumulator $ 93.79

This was for a 3.0 QV -- I think the part is the same for the 3.2, but check to be sure. I've placed about 40 orders with them, never a problem except for a couple of glitches that they quickly fixed.

I've also had good luck with Autohaus AZ and FCP Euro. AW Italian can be very competitive on some of the more Ferrari-specific parts.

So I got one local and installed it ..I hate gas

anyhow its the Bosch part 0438170004 in case your looking

    lessons learned:

have old towels handy as the gas leaks from the lines at first them move them far away from work area
I didnt remove the wheel and did it from underneath..could possibly been easier to remove wheel and inner well cover
take off the heat shield , while its off polish it up
definitely loosen the braided lines before removing from bracket, using two wrenches 14mm and 17 mm
install all hoses first before bolting the bracket on using 10mm nut

car starts up on first crank
no more gas smell (I think the relief valve hose was seeping gas )

I also noticed the replacement line from pump to accumulator. I had new ones made by an outfit called Edwin Johnston in NC. ask for Edwin Jr. He has been very knowledgeable and helpful. line for clutch slave cyl was over 300 dollars. He made one for 48 delivered

The first accumulator comes in a damaged box and there was no packing/cushioning material inside to protect the part. I didn't want to take a chance so it was returned.

So, the replacement comes in today... and it's even worse. What are these people thinking?

I think you are not picky. It is just that a lot of this stuff is old new stock and taken out of the box once in the past to see what it was. put it back box got damaged, tucked away again in the rack, got moved etc. I'm causious too in these situations and see how the item looks like. Don't get me wrong as I think you are right.. but I will try it anyway to see if it works. If so then I am happy, if not then I will send it back and I would not care if it has the smell of petrol :) In Europe they have to take it back if it is not working regardless if you have tried the item or not.

That is terrible advice, and entirely illegal in the United States.

If you ship a product soaked in gasoline or contains any gasoline vapors without proper declaration as a "Dangerous Goods" in transit, you are liable for significant criminal fines and (potential) imprisonment. It is *extremely* dangerous to the drivers, material handlers, and facilities through which these items might pass.

I would be stunned if the EEC didn't have similar regulations.

I agree with you Daniel, of course the petrol will be out, but it will not prevent the thing from getting rid of the smell (besides that it was a little joke) My real point was that some, luckily not the majority, just send you broken stuff.. I'm sorry, but I have no respect for web shops if they know they are sending such stuff out.

The accumulator does have its greatest effect on a hot start, it maintains fuel pressure, and buffers the pulses of the fuel pump. Check if the accumulator hose return to the fuel tank has any fuel in it, it should be dry when you remove the hose. If any fuel, the diaphragm inside is failing, and that's the problem. If the accumulator is ok, then the fuel pump check valve would be a potential issue. Could also be a leaking fuel injector. Ideally one would do a fuel pressure test to see if all is in spec, otherwise you might just be replacing parts.

The check valve is separate from the fuel pump I believe. An original pump might have the check valve built in, but that part number has been superceded by the one for the pump with the separate check valve.

    Hi,

The accumulator I got came from a Mercedes Benz part specialist. Same accumulator used by the W123 280CE , W107 450SL. Same fittings no modifications needed to mount / used them . Same as the Fuel pump .
