Good morning all, I note with interest the kind of insurance premiums being paid by our American colleagues on the thread that's been going for sometime, but wondered therefore, in the UK specifically, what kind of premiums are people paying and which company appears to be the best .. As for me, I've a 2010 458, paying about £800 per annum, no points on licence, but first time in owning a Ferrari ... was just a company car driver previously, so No Claims are limited. Any help would be great ...
Sounds like a good deal but how do you define best ? Any online thread like this often deteriorates into a discussion of the merits of proper insurers vs online generalists
Good point Greyboxer ... I suppose "Best" did infer cheapest ... I'm one of those that thinks I'll only really claim for big accident or theft, everything else will be for me to pick up on, both of the former would probably put the car out of my affordability range, I bought 'just' what I could afford, limited ... so if the insurance became £5k I'd have to sell up. This was a life's ambition to own, since an affordability debate would have stopped me buying it ... since there was no logical financial decision made her to own it ;o) Cheers ...
I pay just over £2k for my 2014 458 spider - I have 3 points on my licence , wife has none and we made a claim last year for a new bumper on my bentley when I ,inadvertently, backed it into a wall :0( 6years protected no claims and return to invoice insurance should it be written off or stolen. cheers, Bob
If you don't mind me asking Bob .. could you tell me which company you chose to insure under ? Thanks either way ... N
No prob - the policy is with aviva , but I always use A-Plan insurance in Swindon - i'll pm you their number , used them for years and they always seem to get a very competitive deal Cheers , bob
Bob, I have been quoted today between 2.8k to 3.3 for a Speciale value 250K? Similiar history to you. Do you think this sounds about right?
I don't know - but guess the speciale is even more 'niche' than the 458 spider, I suspect this would affect the premiums quoted. For what it's worth I'm 43 and the car was 5 months old when I got it and cost £195K
Ok- thanks. I'll PM you the companies i've been quoted on and bit more detail but i maybe it's about right. A little more tun i was expecting though, o, and with 3 k excess.
I think the premiums are based a lot on postcode, as I am sure Mayfair in London is going to be more than me in Blairgowrie Scotland, when I moved from Ashford in Kent back home my premiums dropped over approx. 100 gbp on a 2012 Turbo S and nothing changed apart from Area.
Funny : op says he can't effectively afford to insure his car so he asks for details of a policy that will more than double his cost - go figure ! Road tax servicing tyres depreciation etc presumably are all affordable !
Admiral (fully aware of the limitations of their policy cover), 2014 f12, £650. There are much more comprehensive policies available, but for my purposes and chance of claim (unlikely unless total loss), works for me.
Hi greyboxer, yeah I budget every year for the items you highlight, I guess I was asking if anyone gets it cheaper than me ... since when I took the policy out, not many insurance companies would even offer insurance, so I felt like I had hobsons choice. Nice to know there are other options and I'll try them at renewal, but if more expensive, I'll just stick with who I'm with ... Thanks ! ;o)
Try Lockton they do FOC insurance with Chubb, you might find them cheaper than you have been quoted(depends on your personal circumstances obviously) as my Speciale quote is much less.
Thanks Neil would you be able to pm the quote you received. Today i received a quote for 2.2k with 2.5% excess from Aplan / Aviva but it is not agreed value so wondering if you may as well go for one of the cheaper Admiral/ Elephant companies in that case- Have also received a quality agreed insurance at around 2.4K so thats the likely at the mo but 3k access. Looks like it's worth shopping around as we all know but it's amazing how quickly we get complacent- too busy etc etc.
