sure. these were added to be legal in USA also on 5000S feel free to remove them, if this was your worry...they were not on the car when it left factory gates.
tks for pic exhaust: this is not stock silenced ANSA and also not factory optional sport ANSA F1. and i think 90% not even a modified version of one of them....they probably kept just the tips from the original one it looks very much like a US modifications as other said already i attach 2 pics of stock quiet ANSA and optional ANSA F1, so you can see what they do look like. the stock is pretty heavy and a bit quiet for my taste the sport is very light and pretty loud front wing: i removed the wing and disassembled the parts inside but i can bolt them on again i put two caps, matching painted, on the bonnet....you can barely see them ...you hardly can tell there was a wing until you really get close. i have to disagree on this: i had the original mild steel sport exhaust on my old 1978 S and believe it or not it is still on the car today...and not rusted or destroied...after 36 years my actual 1982 S still has the same mild steel exhaust from well over 15 years to...again no issues i do think mild steel looks best on countach (as in all cars till 90's) since it is what they put on the car when new and also the sound is more "countach" ...as it has a deeper sound. only reason for SS is if you use your car VERY VERY rarely...as once or twice a year or so then there is the chance of water condensation rotting the muffler....not that i have seen this on a countach honestly...i think almost impossible but could happen on some front engine cars that see very few use. there is no real point in putting an SS muffler over a mild steel one on a countach, if not for the hig pitched sound and if you like the look ...i mean it is really a personal taste matter
Emilio -- can you take a picture inside of your front hood? On my car there were brackets welded to the tubular frame by Amerispec and then two longer brackets were attached to these brackets (via bolts, I'm not sure and don't have any pictures here). Those longer brackets went through the hood and supported the front wing which had aircraft type pins to hold it in place. My mechanic who is Italian and a purist was very upset at me when I told him I want to keep the brackets and just use two different hoods, so when the opportunity came to refresh the trunk bay, he strongly pushed me to have the welded brackets cut. I'm looking to create a clamp on support bracket later to match to the original so it can be run with the bumper/wing but the main look will be without. Your idea is great with the paint-matched caps, I will try the same.
Since I'm looking to run the sport exhaust the attachment is center-mounted whereas the factory original and the contraption that I had on the car both were side-mounted. How were these two interchangeable on the car, is there a bracket-type that mounts to the sides and allows a center drop for the exhaust mating?
Look closely at the frame at the top of the differential, you will see two studs. These are for the center mount. Just remove one of the side mounts and attached it to the two studs on the frame to make the center mount. Cheers Jim
Thanks -- will definitely look at this; I vaguely recall a reputable vendor telling me that I should let them know whether I have the center or side-mounted exhausts because they would not be interchangeable without mods to the car...
I think that exhaust is now a fire hazard, must never be used again, and I can think of just one place for it!
Are you speaking about non US cars that ended up being imported into the US by a 3rd party and modified to US specs, or factory built US spec cars with the ugly bumpers that came directly from the factory to the States ?
I see zero difference which side of the pond they were butchered on. All cars came off the line one way and were hacked up for the U.S. Huge Holes drilled, make shift brackets made, unholy appendeges added destroying the design bc of some insurance lobby. In my view this butchering of so many cars for US import is part of the reason for the drag on prices. The problem with the Countach is that the butchering is expensive to revert. A total restoration is necessary and the Countach is very expensive to restore properly. There is one school of thought that Now that a 200-250k restoration is worth it, you will see more and more good cars (and less fright pigs) and values may even rise. I remember when a crazy guy named Joe Sackey was spending insane money restoring the frighteningly temperamental Muira when they were neglected and not worth restoring. Every Muira I used to see was a basket case. Now most are seen as polished jewels.
Both. And I think John explains why, very well. Factory USA Fuelie engines should be retained of course.
Interesting,my 87 came with a front wing,(wich i removed) it was simply bolted thru the front hood,no brackets at all.
Engine comlartment and underside certainly doesn't look restored from the pictures, as the description indicates. Difficult to tell condition of the paint. Anyone know this car?
The engine is a fuel-injection conversion. Interior trim missing, ear wing is from a 78/79 (without end-plates), etc.
One of the first CT i've seen with sun visors, the little metal end cap on the glove box mechanism is missing - I find it strange tht the "federalized" the car with injection then did not continue with side markers - overall, including the seats, interior roof covering, underside and suspension, looks in very good order and original. I just wonder how that motor configuration runs and sounds ...... with today's values and steady appreciation it would be economically feasible to purchase the correct parts and return it to the 45 side drafts Webers.
Someone deleted the side markers. No Bull emblem on the back as well, which I would think being an 1985 car it would have. The gear shift shaft looks shortened? Front tires are an off brand. Probably a color change, but looks like a nice car overall.
sun visor are on usa QV FI.this is an add IMO.no 5000 had visors. BTW Joey, Do you have pictures of you car engine? i beleive your is very close to this one Alos I may be confused but was not that car on BJ auction in 1992 and did not sell?
