Have finally sorted the 3000 pictures from the work performed on my -77 GTB #21447. All major work completed late summer 2014, and just want to share some of the pictures from the process. Story goes like this: bought the car as a true "US model basket case", disassembled, crap-paintjob, and engine with snapped exhaustvalve, related piston fragments located in oilsump and slight waterleak though affected liner ref pictures. As "stage 1" I got the car roadworthy after restoring suspension, brakes & steering, with a temporary drivetrain. Car were then driven for a year before "stage 2" with bodywork, paintjob and restored drivetrain. In this process I chose to modify the car back to "Euro" standard using only original Ferrari parts, still the concours-oriented among us will probably not like some of the changes made -but work is done and I LIKE IT. Car is now a perfect driver and performs like a proper 308GTB should. Engine coming together, and unbelieveably much weld rework needed on exhaust to get perfect fit. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Removing all paint and "tons" of filler reveals superb bodywork underneath it all. Also reveals that car were originally Marrone, then blue before red, and now going back to original. Found untouched Marrone paint with clearcoat when removing rear window. Rebuilding rear of car to "euro" spec were a lot more work than anticipated. The US bumper with supporting structure and the quadrouple floors is unbelieveable ! Quite a lot leftovers for the bin, actually it was more than on picture. Sorry I forgot to put it on a scale -but believe me it's heavygauge stuff. We used an original untouched euro car as "template" to get it as correct as possible for an early GTB. Lot's of room for fitting exhaust now !! Details from engine compartment coming together. New doors were sourced and new "onepiece" rear valance for 4 pipe hi-performance exhaust. H Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Finally some pictures of the result. The color is changing a lot in different lighting conditions. In poor lighting it appears black. H Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
One more. Thanks for viewing And thanks to Hans Sørensen/Spirit of Italy for all mechanic work and managing the restoration, Sondre Haverstad/HH Bilskade for bodywork/preparation magic and Magnar Martinsen/Martinsen Billakk for excellent paintjob. Very nice!! The entire time scrolling through your photos I kept thinking, this is going to be a beautiful GTB and the end result is nothing short!
Gorgeous car. Marrone is really a great color in person on a 308 and most of the time pictures don't do it justice but yours do. Congrats!
I can really respect and appreciate you going back to the original color instead of "resale red". The car looks great.
What a wonderful transformation. That photo of the broken cylinder liner was very much scary stuff. Nice to see it back on the road.
Harald: Absolutely stunning car and in a beautiful color. Cars restored to original colors other than Rosso Rivendita are so wonderful to see. Your car in Maronne is no exception. So nice. Congratulations to you and your whole team on a job well done! Ciao! Hannibal
Well done, How did you get that 'rough' finish on the fire wall and gas tanks? Mine is coming off in places and I'd like to fix it up a bit. tks
Wow, a lot of work and the results look fantastic! Good to see it complete and being enjoyed. Congrats.
