So true Melvok! Drive it, put miles on it and enjoy it. You only live once. Keeping an eye on the TR prices daily is wishful thinking and only serves the pump and dumpers. Each car has a different history as we all know. A cheap one is perceived as junk and one asking $150,000 is perfect....NOT always. It is always nice to make a few bucks off a passion but that is not the reason to own a Testarossa. It is the owning and driving experience....having one of the greatest most unique cars ever built. Many a person's childhood wet dream.

Everyone knows prices have gone up on all classic and exotic cars almost to a point of excess. Ferrari's, early 911s, 912s, '70s 911 Turbos, VW micro buses, Ghiblis, Jarama's, Countach, on and on. The frenzy is not limited to Ferrari's. If someone just wanted to make money, you should have put it on Taser (TASR) during the Ferguson riots...it has doubled in the last two months.

Anyone that doesn't care about value trends, why not just ignore the threads?

No need to show disrespect. Some of us are interested in value and ROI.

Followed the link msdesignltd posted, nice grafix.

interesting report although I would not have thought coins did that well over 12 months.

I think I've just earned my next major service with the uptick over the past 4 months :D

I'm only kidding around Mel but it doesn't hurt to pass my babe onto the next owner in a win win situation. That is:
    1) me keeping up with the maintenance whilst enjoying it (i travel too much to drive this every weekend hence the low miles)
    2) not losing my ass in the process. I've already mastered the losing thing when it comes to cars.

Heres my question with regards to our cars... what is their real condition based on the definition? I would think my car is a number 2.

It solid, 16,000 miles, no deficiencies, etc. The seat has some slight wear, the engine compartment is dirty since its actually driven, and has one 3 inch scratch on the bumper.

But, that pretty much described EVERY testarossa. Most are garage queens, and are in nice shape.

According to Haggerty, my car would be a #3?!?! They make a #2 car sound like its a 3 year old Pebble Beach Restoration. While a #3 is:

"#3 cars could possess some, but not all of the issues of a #4 car, but they will be balanced by other factors such as a fresh paint job or a new, correct interior. #3 cars drive and run well, but might have some incorrect parts. These cars are not used for daily transportation but are ready for a long tour without excuses, and the casual passerby will not find any visual flaws. "Good" is the one word description of a #3 car."

Is it fair to say most of our cars are "number 2"? Some #1. According to Haggerty we all drive #3 cars...

Just trying to figure out if I should now insure my car for $86,000 (#2)... or $68,000 (#3)...

Sorry I don't agree at all. Not all enthusiasts are into weekly/daily driving, diff failures and flat out on Autobahn.

The discussions are relevant and interesting to quite a few Ferrari enthusiasts, why waste your time complaining about this and still show up as one of the top posters in the value threads?

If you park your car to a number 2 car , it would be a step above yours , and you would see it if you were honest with yourself. A no1 car virtually means out of the wrapper.

It's a sour pill for many to take, but it is what it is. I don't know about you, but all this high fiving on price increases when prices are anywhere between 68-85k is nothing to celebrate, still an insulting number when you consider 930 turbos which they made 100s of thousand fetch 100k all the time with 5x the Testarossa mileage, and just as expensive to service, and still looks like a frog from the back;)

Insuring your car for 75k US sounds about right, a shame really as by your description your car should be a 6 figure car and people fighting over it to get one.

Don't know where you get your info...but 930 production is around 25,000 (not hundreds of thousands) Maintenance????? A 930 needs just fluid changes and an occasional valve adjustment ( if it is driven a lot of miles) I have owned a 930 for 20 years and the car is as close to maintenance free as any modern car.

I also Wonder why those Porsches are worth more. Much more produced, super cheap and ugly interior, much less power. Look the almost same for a century. And a fan cool engine.
It's not that I don't like them but how could this be?

    Crazy world.

Less power but.....much less weight. Ugly interior( it is personal preference) but much easier to get in & out and seems to have more room. Much better overall quality and it will run circles around a TR. The 930 is a overall great car. The three poster cars of the 80's: Countach, TR, 930. Hopefully TR values will catch up to the Countach & 930

+1 I have had mine over twenty years and not a problem. I just do occasional fluid changes one valve adjustment ( did not even need it) and a set of plugs ( also not needed) The car is bulletproof :)

I have had 5 911's over the years, never an issue besides a fuel gauge issue. Thinking about a 997 come May. But then again, the only major things on the TR's ive owned were clutches IE preventative MX.

I have a bit confusion here; a good 930 Turbo (especially 1989) is around $100K, normal 930 is basically half price of the Turbo; I think TR is valued way more than that. Moreover TR will hardly catch up to Countach which is around $400-500K now ; may be F512M will be able to catch up sooner or later.

The TR will never catch up to the Countach, it just does not have the same "holy crap!" factor.

You just never know! No doubt about the Countach being the most stunning - but though the world has changed, they're both still the same cars they were 25 years ago and back then in the last boom Testarossa's reached 200k-250k which was about 50k more than most Countach's at the time.

Like I say u never know but it doesn't seem far out to imagine a mint 512m or early single mirror car at Countach anniversary levels soon. Mine won't b though with 60k+ miles on the clock!

I think the Testarossa must have lost more greedy speculators their fortune than just about any other car when the market crashed last time. I can imagine those ppl now looking in discust to see them rising in value again let alone to c that the people now buying them are the spotty teenagers who had their noses presed up against the showroom windows on their way to school at the time!

Ironically though they (we) are the new generation of buyers of these cars - though obviously there will always be some younger and older generations too but I think my generation buying them because they love them is where most of the demand is coming this time.

    Dom.

    Yes I agree fully !

Most F friends hope to have a car #1 or #2 ... but do not ever reach that level ...

It is not just polishing the outside of the TR, also the nessesary preventive maintanance and normal maintenance should be done.
(Look at the 30 years old rubber brakehoses as bad example)

90% of Testa's I saw last 6 years were (not even) # 3's .... Sorry to say ... even my own 512TR would never reach # 1 to be honust.
