Hi All: I've been a lurking around for a while, and thanks to all for sharing their experience and knowledge.

I am pretty close to pulling the trigger on an F12 for summer delivery. The car will be my DD (in and out of NYC). I tend to like my cars pretty low key--which partially explains the color choices. I also think the shape itself is fantastic, and I am trying to keep the look clean.

Finally, since I will be driving this thing quite a bit, I am trying to manage the inevitable financial sting on exit and have done my best to keep the options reasonable (sadly, no CF cupholders in my future). But I am open to suggestions if anyone sees any blunders.

So, here's the spec' and any suggestions would be appreciated:

    Silverstone
Nero Daytonas with Gallo contrast stitching
Standard wheels, black calipers, black carbon inserts
    Carbon/LED wheel
    Lifters, cameras, mirrors, hi-fi,

    jp

PS. It appears the waitlists are over. My dealer went from I can't take any deposit money, to I could use an order. I'm a decent customer at the dealer, but a first time F buyer.

Spec looks very good but depending on the cost implications perhaps go for the option wheel. I like the "stealth" understated look of this spec, the lack of shields adds to this understated effect.

If one goal is to reduce the financial sting on exit, you will have a hard time with that with high mileage and without shields. You can't/shouldn't really do anything about the miles - enjoy the car. But with that already counting against you, lack of shields will near make it impossible to sell at any reasonable price.

I'd go with the dark grey wheels, LED-carbon steering wheel and add shields.

The wheels will fit the car better, give it a nice look without much cost. The shields and steering wheel will make it look great and will help your resale goals tremendously.

I think the dark grey wheels do indeed look great, and will give it a hard look.

I already had the LED carbon steering wheel in the spec' and I totally agree that's just too cool to not include.

I hear everyone on the shields. Just not my cup of tea. Let me ask the dumb question: can't they just be added later for the next guy who wants it?

    Thanks all for the input!

Nice looking configuration. My 2 cents having just taken delivery of a new F12 is that the shields would look great on the car and help with resale value significantly for whatever reason. Also, the optional wheel (especially with gray or dark tint) could go a long way with the stealth look.

IMO the 18 way adjustable seat isn't necessary. I went with the standard seat (Daytona) and am very happy. I had read somewhere on this forum regarding the stock audio system being "very good" and didn't get the upgraded system. That advice, I'm afraid wasn't very good. The audio system is SO bad that it almost feels as though they went out of their way to make it sound bad (I am not exaggerating). People say things like "why would you ever even listen to music with that engine….etc" which of course is ridiculous since this is a GT car and especially for daily commutes, you will end up doing that.

This brings me to the final point regarding the F12. Everything about the car has met or exceeded my expectations, with the exception of the exhaust sound at sub 4500 RPM's. If this car was exclusively being used on a track….well then it's no issue. But until the flaps open at that RPM range, the car sounds like a lexus. I have inquired about an aftermarket system to address this, but my local dealer told me that the factory "no longer recommends this!!!" when I asked why, I was told that they are "coming out with a sport exhaust." I am mentioning this because if you have the opportunity to address this…you should.

Best of luck! It is an amazing car.

They can't... Different fenders.... But if you got them, you could switch out the yellow for after market carbon fiber ones- that way they wouldnt stick out much and you'd have the other set on hand...

I added Capristo bypass to my FF. It improves the lower rpm sound to a more noticeable growl. I simply hit the remote to quiet her down when entering my neighborhood or around disapproving ears. On spirited acceleration, the Capristo lets the beast roar.
    Cheers

I like the idea of after market carbon shields. I will be switching out to them on my Nero FF.

Thanks Richard. That's exactly what I was planning on doing. I was advised against it by dealer…in fact they said they wouldn't do it although they haven't seen a problem with them.

I saw a post earlier this year where the Aero Bridge with shields can be removed and replaced with one with no shields, or vice versa, if it really comes down to the best of both. Not sure what the cost of the additional Aero Bridge is.

Thanks for your feedback on your experience.

I think the grey wheels is a great call, and will likely go that way. (Thanks to the other posters who also made that suggestion.)

Thanks for the heads up on the hifi. I was planning on going for the premium sound. Your input confirms that one.

Interesting point on the seats. Typically, I also skip power seats to save weight and reduce complexity, and I am the only driver, so I set and forget it. I was under the impression (false perhaps) that the power seats brought with it heating which is nice. Do your seats heat?

FWIW, my dealer mentioned the aftermarket exhaust as a good idea that most of his customers do. He didn't discuss the factory POV on this. I would likely go stock and see what I think, and then make a change if I feel the need for it.

My dealer is emphatic about the shields. Whether you want them or not, get them. Otherwise the car becomes in his words, "A price point car." I assume this is not good..

I saw an F12 with the painted matte gray wheels. Not good unless your body paint is matte or a matte wrap. Go gloss.

    You're on the right path.

Re Shields, what I've observed is not so much a direct loss on resale, but seems most buyers want shields, and cars without seem to sit much longer (and inevitably go for less, if only to move them).

Do you need the lift? I only ask in that we live in CT and took our F12 into/out of NYC a bit and never actually needed the lift, and never scraped (same on FF, 458 and Speciale). The lift is pricey and heavy.

Premium sound - all up to you. Personally the stock system was fine for our use, and even though the car is a GT, it's not a Rolls - there is a (very nice) noise from the engine.

On the exhaust, I'd do the Capristo remote valve opener as a starter. If you still want more, you can escalate from there - it's quick, low cost, big bang for buck and easily reversible.

If the car is going to be a DD, I'd splurge on the electric seats; you get the heat, plus the memory function for mirrors, electric steering wheel adjustment, etc. (though in full disclosure, we went with Race Seats which for us worked perfectly). Takes 10 seconds for my wife/me to swap settings on seat, wheel and mirrors all manually.

Just be heads up - the potholes on roads into/out of NYC will have zero mercy on the wheels, you should budget a couple replacements!

Painting the dash, bridge and cup holder is a "cost effective" alternative to the cheap looking stock and the offensively expensive CF. I was able to get front dash, bridge, cup holder and all vents painted gloss black (piano black finish) and get the upgraded HIFI for less than CF.

On the F12 the shields are on the aerobridge and you can bolt a different bridge on. I have not done this myself but I do know that the are a part you can order directly from Ferrari and bolt on. One of the members here ordered with shields and ordered new bridges w/o shields so that he could have it both ways. I believe it was Mark on his Grigio Titano F12 in late summer or early fall try looking in the F12 picture thread from July-September time frame.

If you wanted it both ways, my guess is that it'd be cheaper to order the car with the shields and then buy the bridges w/o the shields after the fact.

re: seats- My seats are electrically adjustable and have memory settings. There is apparently an additional adjustability option (probably includes heat and lumbar etc). I don't recall the exact price on this option but it was in the 5k range…maybe more. Ask your dealer to confirm.

I'd also question the need for the lift. My F12 has more ground clearance than my Maser GTS. I think Shields are a must. I'd also recommend the forged wheels. Rear camera is a good idea as well. Front camera isn't needed.

Lift system is like an insurance policy, it's only for the one time that you need the extra clearance.

You buy insurance for the car without second thought, the lift system should be the same.

I check the lift system box first thing on all my cars, even before I pick a colour. It's not really an expensive option, and the weight saved is negligible. So where is the down side?

I had lift on my Speciale, I had to use it almost every time I drive the car. Both my FF and F12 have lifts but I have yet to use them. But I am glad there is that little lift button in the car for that one time I might drive to somewhere where I have the option to raise the car.

I'd actually skip the LED steering wheel. It's just a nice gimmick and I actually hated that on my Speciale. The difference in feel on the steering wheel i.e. going from leather to plastic and back, bugs me a lot.

As I've been told, the downside is that the lift system, when chosen, deselects the better track suspension that would otherwise come on the car... At least on the 458 Speciale that's the case.

I have the lift on my 458 and never use it ever and I even had the car lowered

I just ordered my f12 without hifi and now I'm worried I made a mistake!!

Thanks everyone for the feedback. Lots to ponder.

I will check on the shield/no shield option play. I did check the other thread and it does look like another owner did indeed swap the bridge, etc. I'll post when I find more.

Good points on the the lift. I have it on my McLaren, and use it rarely. But I do think I would be pretty unhappy when the lift is the only way to make it around without a big scrape. It doesn't happen that often, and sometimes I am too slow to get it set right, but I might have a hard time leaving that off.

Thanks again to all. FC is a great community, and I really appreciate that you all have taken the time to give my build some thought.

That's what I find incredulous. We spent the Christmas holiday in NYC, but I didn't dare take the Ferrari. My Lexus is good enough for the potholes, taxis, pedicabs, bicyclists and pedestrians to hit! :D

    And yes, get the shields.
